Description

The Human Chronicle Part Four: The Australopithecus Sediba

Living around 1.9 million years ago, the fossilised skeletons of Au. sediba discovered from the Malapa cave in South Africa are so complete that scientists can see what entire skeletons looked like near the time when the genus Homo evolved. Details of the teeth, the length of the arms and legs, and the narrow upper chest resemble earlier Australopithecines, while other tooth traits and the broad lower chest resemble humans. This mixture of primitive traits with the addition of increasingly human characteristics makes the evolutionary process of the Sediba an interesting subject indeed.
