Project title: Preconceptions

Concept Summary:

This project will explore the assumptions that come out of people’s preconceptions, including stereotyping. The project will include models shirtless, with writing on their bodies.

Project Overview:

Everyday people look at us and make assumptions about who we are, the choices we make, how we would relate to them. Often, these assumptions are either wrong or simply hateful and can often be disproven if the person making the assumption took 5 minutes to talk to the person they are making all the assumptions about.

I am making a series of pictures showing models coming and going. On the front of them will be written a number of correct and incorrect assumptions and on the back will be the revealed truth. The concept I am trying to convey is a person can only really know another person by getting to know him or her, and not by simply assuming they know who someone is by how they perceive their appearance.

I am very interested in getting input from the models about what kind of preconceptions they have faced in their lives and incorporating their life experienced into the artwork.

I really like the idea behind these shots. The execution is pretty dead on as well. My only issue is some of the words are a little hard to read. In this image "Devoted To One" and "Drug Free" almost blend together. It may be nit picking, but I think cleaner lines on the writing itself would stronger support the theme of the images.

But the concept is rocking my world, I look forward to your other pieces!

i like the concept very much

a few things i thought of though (feel free to disregard if you want)...maybe make the writing itself a bit more interesting/focal point. in the thumbnail view it just looks like a tattoo (which may be your idea). and if you varied it for each model (perhaps only on their backs - the "true side") to further reflect their true selves (though again, you may be going to do that anyway). also, a plain background would probably draw more attention to the model - though yet again, that could be part of your concept (maybe a background that sort of reflects them???) but it doesn't quite sit right in this pic.

having just said all that, i do really like this concept. and these are good pics. with a little more work this series could be really quite something. keep it up!

Thank you. That is good feedback.

Did you see this one yet: [link]

I am planning on making 20-80 of these with different models, some walking, some on bikes, some on skateboards, etc.

Then I am going to do it over again, only the second time I will display the pictures and ask random people on the street to volunteer their point of view(and their body). For the second stage, I will use new white t-shirts for the writing.
