Location: Australia
Time period: 45 million years in the future
Clade: Equinae

Gigantohippus melanius is a large jungle-dwelling equine from Australia, that lives 45 million years in the future. Being descended from three-toed hipparioninins, these equines survived in the rainforests of southeast Asia as specialized jungle-dwelling browsers. After Australia collided with Sundaland only to separate from it again, it brought a piece of southeast asian fauna with it. Gigantohippus is one of the most impressive animals, a giant equine that lives in rainforests. Males are large than females and are distinguished for having an enormous striped mane over its neck and shoulders that makes this large creature look even larger than it seems.
