Description Oth, keeper of the deep...

Comments and feedback as usual is very welcome. If you got tips for a budding digital artist, even better. I find it looks a bit flat on some areas as I couldn't figure out how to make it look like it's sitting in front of the background and not just pasted from elsewhere.

Character created for Character Design Challenge! First entry, a bit late so I hope I'll make it. Not that it'll do a lot of difference, entries this month have been spectacular!
I've entered CDC with a blue 'water' background version, it will be on Facebook later. I'll submit the grey here.

Pencil sketch, digitally coloured.
Weapons of choice:
-2B pencil on cartridge paper
-GIMP
-Krita

First time I complete work using this technique. I made some mistakes and learned lots.

It is such a simple drawing, yet it looks so strikingly realistic. Jeesh, the skill @_@ Absolutely stunning

This is an awesome creature design, really
To me, the head looks like it is coming towards the viewer whereas the body appears further back. The end of the tail looks closer to the viewer again. Does the version with the water background look any different in terms of how the creatures is positioned in space? I imagine, you could add a blue background and shade it darker in parts that are further away. But I'm not sure whether it would work

No, the 'water' version is the same, what changes is the colour. In fact it even gives more idea of space and depth like you describe, but something about it is off. I think after letting it rest (I've done this one about a month ago already, time flies) I realised the water didn't look like water because it needed some debris and the creature didn't seem to really fit because it didn't match the background in terms of visual noise. If I ever have the time and can be bothered to fix those two issues, I will, and will update the water version here.

Thank you again for the comment, glad to know you like it!

I admire your creativity here. Designing creatures seems so complex to me, and I love where your imagination went for this one. :]
