the history of Poland in a nutshell:
Poland: "We are a nation!!"
foreign power: "No your not." *club to the head*
*years later* Poland: "We're back!!"

Like a big bully, despite her short size, Sweden's glare, her fancy clothes, and her big bodyguard friend make it clear who's really on top. But Poland's expression is really quite hilarious- almost as though she's thinking to herself "oh, here we go again..." another would be conqueror for the central European state! The bagginess under Russia's eyes in the background are great, and what with the empty Vodka bottle, I think you have made it quite clear just WHY she has such baggy eyes! The overall effect of this panel really is hilarious, almost like children in a school yard, despite the life or death aspect of the actual situation!
Excellently done, conveying so many layers, so subtlely with such a fun, cute, and cartoony style!

Sweden is short because of two reasons:
1. Sweden at the time was population wise, and economically very VERY small compared to many of the other great European Empires of the day. But despite that, they were able to conquer and accomplish a great deal. I thought I could reflect that with height.
2. The model for Sweden was taken from the original character of a friend of mine, (who's Swedish) who happens to be, very short. So I felt it fun and appropriate to keep them that way

It occurs to me that while one can easily access information on these events, it might be fun to have a bit of a narrative of them in the description. Maybe can submit a description to go with each pic "illustrating" what's happening as it pertains to the actual events that inspired the image, but perhaps more in the context of the bondage that's being depicted. Did I explain that well enough? XD
Just a thought to make this theme even more fun, especially if it's through the perspective of that teacher whom we now know is give us these lectures.

I looked the Swedish Empire up and it looked like Russia got some of it's territory when the empire fell apart, but that's about all I could get out of it. I can pick out Russia and Sweden in these pics, but I don't know if Sweden's ally is Estonia or Finland and I can't place which country the construction worker is supposed to be. So, it would definitely help.

Oh, and PS- the construction worker gal is Poland- to represent how Poland has had to pull herself back together after so many years of being bullied by other nations in history.

That was one of the countries I thought she might represent.
I like that. She's in the middle of rebuilding and she's right back into trouble again, being claimed by someone else. Poor Poland.

Sweden's ally in this series in Finland, the Fins were famous for being strong and loyal allies to the Swedes, in particular the Finnish Hakkapellit light cavalry brigades. Russia did take quite a few bits of Swedish territory, but the real result of the collapse of the Swedish Empire was that Russia became the bully of the Baltic, dominating most of Eastern Europe from then on, until now a days!

Nope, Denmark. Norway was a dependency of Denmark during much of her history, and Sweden and Denmark are notoriously famous rivals, much like France and England.
