Pure pristine water, fresh clean air.
There are hundreds of lakes in Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains, most of which have been created by alpine glaciers. The majority of the lakes are within the federally-protected Sawtooth Wilderness, but several are still not yet within Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The largest lakes are Redfish, Alturas, Pettit (shown here), Yellow Belly, Stanley, and Sawtooth lakes.
According to the EPA, the Sawtooth Wilderness has some of the clearest air in the lower 48 U.S. states.
