Description I remember way back when I started doing a lot of environments with characters because the majority of my images were often backgroundless with more attention to the figure and backgrounds added as an after thought. Now however, after a year and a half of pursuing more detailed background environments (particularly outdoor scenes). In a strange twist of fate, I feel more comfortable with landscapes than figures, which implies that I'll have to start doing more figural work. In the meantime, after a long hiatus brace yourself for many landscapes.Β

I totally relate to what you wrote ! I thought I sucked at environments so I studied them a lot. Nowadays, I find figures way more difficult to paint than say, trees rocks and clouds. In the painting I'm currently doing, I spent almost half my time struggling to paint a relatively small figure while easily painting the environment around it. I've also discovered that I find landscapes much more fun to paint than figures

It's so true! Part of it is you just practice at one thing for so long... everything else even if you once felt okay with it, by the time you get back to working with them again, you feel a skill gap. Now I feel human figures and urban environments are definitely next on my list of things to pursue and improve on.Β

I agree after having done many a landscape, I find them far more enjoyable. I can appreciate the beauty of form but with landscapes... there's just so much more going on. With a single figure you're locked into a pose a body, an expression and a light source... whereas with an environment there can be all manners of things going on as you are rendering not the subject but the literal canvas of your world, with it's own internal logic and rules and thus more opportunities to just run wild. I'll definitely trying catching up in my feed as I'm certain you have more wonders in your gallery since I've been away.Β

And thank you~

Aaaargh, urban environments... I feel your pain ! What I'm currently struggling with are indoor scenes. I realized that every single of my paintings are located outdoor and that I don't have a clue about believable indoor lighting
Well, looking forward to seeing all your next experiments

Indoor scenes too! Β There's just so much complex geometry going on and then there's bounce light and some other factors to toss in next to perspective. It's just a lot of work. Environments outside the natural are definitely something I will be dedicating more time to. I wish you luck in your experiments as well and look forward to them!

You really managed to capture the look of falling rain. Something about the water I love the most and how the droplets are bouncing off of it.

Definitely favorite part of the piece as well. Β Β I've certainly gotten more experimental with how I apply watercolor after taking some time off for myself, which becomes more apparent in later pieces. Thank you!Β

Very nice misty surroundings you've captured here I really like the kind of highlights along the bottom of the painting - the rainwater is splashing and moving
And again - very calming, soft atmosphere

Same.Β  Β There's something quite beautiful about the rain that I wanted to capture but then I tend to be drawn to movement. Thank you and it's good to hear from you.
