Description This is little Timon from Lion King done in Super Sculpey. He was my first figurine ever and, besides the evenstar, the first clay work. So I have to say I am pretty sattisfied with the result.
I know there are some proportional disorders though. His right hand is too big for exaple but having it added once, I have to admit I was too lazy to change it again.
After baking him, the poor guy had lost his ability to stand. I assume the long standing in the oven dodged his tail a little. Also one foot cracked but this is fixable. Maybe I can also add some clay on he tail to make him stand alone
So hopefully in the nearer future I'll go and buy some paint and get him colored

Would be good to hear some honest critiques. Hope you enjoy

First sculpt or not it looks great!  He's got that attitude and ease to his pose.
I noticed this is two years old, any plans for future sculpts?

Thank you so much
God it has been two years already? Well I have to say I have my phases on every hobby that come and go from time to time.
After this I did a little hobbit hole entrance for a bonsai, inspired by this idea: img.gawkerassets.com/img/18i2w…
And I also startet a replica of the ziggs statue they sell in the riot shop for my boyfriend. But I didn't even finish the head yet and paused for 2 month or so now.
I hope I finish this in the near future. Maybe I should post WIP pics along the way to keep myself motivated.
But thanks for your comment, I appreciate it!
And nice portrait work in your gallery

You're welcome
I was just curious because Timone came out so well and it'd be a shame for that to be the first and last, ya know?  But, I definitely know where you're coming from and I should be one to talk, those drawings (thanks, btw) are probably just as old, if not older.  I'm exactly the same though always bouncing around and currently getting into sculpting.
That hobbit hole/bonsai is such a cool idea.  And as for the ziggs statue, why buy one when you can sculpt it? lol, gonna be cool to see that one, it's fairly intricate.  WIP's would be nice, good luck!

I really like your work, I try to sculpt little figures sometimes but I completely suck so to make custom figures I can only modify with clay premade ones XD
The details of your Timon are very well made, have you coloured him yet? ^^

Thank you very much!
I haven't colored him yet but I bought some colors, so i should do it.
I guess I am a little afraid of making it bad I'll upoad him when he is colored.
Thanks for the fav, too!

Well, when I do something wrong with a figure I use nail polish remover and start it all again XD
:3 You are welcome for the fave, I love it!

A good job you did! And I can't see disproportion with the first sight (with the second too ).

Thanks a lot!
Yeah I think you don't really see it on the pictures, but the hands are pretty big.
It's not that extreme though.

What sorts of sculpting tools do you use, BTW?

Ylvina In reply to FluffyGerbil [2014-03-16 08:42:52 +0000 UTC]

I bought some wooden tools, which were pretty bad because of their shape.
No sharp edges and just extremely unprecise shapes. So I took a knife and
reshaped them a little. Now I love them.

This is a little tutorial on tools by a tremendous sculpter But of course he is a professional
so you might not need all of this at once. As said, I just have some wooden tools until now.

Great work, amazing to think this is your first sculpt! Looks very professional, great detail and smoothing, I still struggle to get this kind of finish and I am quite a few sculpts in now. Can't wait to see more

Thank you!
I think most of the smoothing was just done using my fingers...
Actually I don't quite remember spending much effort on it, it somehow happened along the way.
But maybe just try to smooth it with fingerstrokes

Looks WAY better than most of the figurines Disney ever produced. Hard to find good-looking ones resembling the original.. Your version certainly does!! Great job - would purchase one if they were available. xD

Fabulous work Judy!!! You are not the beginner at all, I would say you are a natural born sculptor!!

The standing issue I can help with some suggestion. The skills you have are amazing!  ^^

Omg thank you so much, this really makes my day (orshould I say night)!
Could you maybe tell me the brandname you told me before for good paint?
I can't find the older messages anywhere here and google is not too specific... :/

There are many model paint brands good for like Tamiya, Humbrol, Revell, Xtracolor, testors... Please do watch for water base, oil base or for airbrush. water base you just need water to thin it, others need thinner. And cleaning kit to wash brushes.  The model paints that I suggested was for Evenstar you making.

I think for Timon, you may use model paints or you can simply use acrylic paints should be ok. Apply some varnish paint after coloring for protection.  They (the colors) may last longer. There are tutorials at DA to look at when you paint it.

Keep up your good work!!! ^^
