Description

My StarCraft 2 themed visual style for Windows.

The release of my StarCraft 2 Windows theme. Many thanks to everyone here and everywhere else for their feedback and suggestions. I couldn't have made this without all the advices I've gotten.

Windows 8 port thanks to poweredbyostx

Wallpaper used in the screenshot besides the SC2 walls is Beautiful Space  by Robsonbillponte666 .

Protoss and Terran wallpaper coming soon.

Made a self-installer (for the Visual Style). Download it from my stash:

sta.sh/02c0nq8jx3hg

Instructions on using it:

1. You WILL need a system patch (Universal theme patcher, uxstyle (from uxstyle.com) or UltraUXThemePatcher (www.syssel.net/hoefs/software_… .

2. After that you only need to double click on the installer.exe, and it applies the Visual Style.

Using it will only install the visual style itself (wallpaper, cursors, sound, windows and taskbar look, windows skin elements); you'll still need to replace the icons and system files manually (for that, download the archive on the right side on the page).

Help with installing:

How to Install Custom Themes  by neiio

You WILL need a system patch (Universal theme patcher, uxstyle (from uxstyle.com) or UltraUXThemePatcher (www.syssel.net/hoefs/software_… .

You have to download / install Start Orb Changer to change the start orb (using the png files in the StartOrb folder).

www.door2windows.com/windows-7…

You can install it and change system files with Theme Installer.

Or alternatively:

1. Install the fonts included

2. Copy the contents of Themes folder to WindowsResourcesThemes folder. You can then apply the Visual Style by going to Personalize, and selecting Starcraft 2 theme.

3. Rename your WindowsSystem32timedate.cpl and explorerframe.dll to something else, and copy the files included in TimeDate and ExplorerFrame folder over (x64 for 64 bit, x86 for 86 bit systems)

4. You can edit the bitmap files in your shell32.dll with a resource editor (I use Restorator2009) by replacing the files of the same name with the ones included in the shell32 folder

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The package includes:

- Visual Style

- Wallpapers

- Cursors (slightly extended version of Starcraft 2 Cursor Set  by Darc1n )

- Shell style

- Navigation buttons

- Start orb

- Time and date

Én most nagyon nyomom a multit, bár a kampányokat is végigtoltam. Egyszer talán majd nyomhatunk egy Archon mód-ot

Lehetséges, bár ppill hely hiányában nem tartózkodik fent a merevlemezemen a játék, de amint lesz időm és helyem is, valószínűleg ismét felkerül.

I love the look of the beautiful space and theme above but when I tried downloading and installing it all I got were the other wallpapers, the sound effects and my recycling bin got deleted. Probably a stupid move but I thought I'd try again by starting from scratch but I can't delete the themes I downloaded, I deleted all the files I downloaded, but when I go into my personalization options, the themes are still there, minus the beautiful space one, which is the one I was hoping for...

I'd really love some suggestions here.

First of all: thanks!

Not sure how it deleted your recycling bin and stuff, but if you apply the default theme, delete your \Windows\themes\SC2 folder and sc2 .theme files, it should disappear.

If you install it again and apply any of the themes, you can change the wallpaper the same way you normally would, I've linked the space wallpaper in the description, it's  Beautiful Space  by Robsonbillponte666 .

Amazing job! I really like this.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it hard to change all the icons, even using Iconpackager, I have got to change them one after another. Is there any way to automate this? Or some kind of package out there with your icons?

I might do iconpackages for my themes, I'm just a little bit under the weather nowadays.
I still have 2-3 projects I have to finish, but if I find the time in between, I'll update the themes with links of the iconpacks.

how to uninstall? my windows explorere crashes every time now i installes this software so even right click personalize is not possible anymore. my pc is scrap now

yorgash In reply to Tristar82 [2014-02-15 15:46:08 +0000 UTC]

Not sure what might have caused this problem, but if you can open task manager (either by ctrl+alt+del, or right click on the taskbar -> run task manager) you can start a command prompt (File -> new task (Run...) -> type in cmd.exe (or if you can open up start menu you can just type in cmd.exe there).

If you have the command prompt open, you can type in sfc /scannow to restore affected system files.

I'm guessing if you indeed messed up the system with this theme, it must have had something to do with the file "Shell32.dll", since that's the only part that can cause a mess of the system.

You're welcome.

I'm not sure how you've tried replacing the timedate.cpl, but if nothing else works, you can open the file with a resource editor (like Restorator2009), and replace the bitmaps manually to the one I've included.

Balassar [2014-02-08 15:53:16 +0000 UTC]

Hey,

I love the theme so far, but I am having an issue when trying to save files.

So far this has only occurred in Google Chrome, and Skype.

When select Save As... it opens the dialogue box like normal, but there is no navigation bar and no icons in the dialogue box.

Which means i don't know what folder is currently selected and i cant navigate away from it.

Is anyone else having this issue?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to Balassar [2014-02-08 16:42:35 +0000 UTC]

I recall a single person having this issue this far, way earlier.

I think he had to install another system patch instead of UltraUXThemePatcher (like uxstyle from uxstyle.com) - but I'm not totally sure that was hot it got resolved, since I've suggested him a couple of other ideas.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Balassar In reply to yorgash [2014-02-10 23:55:50 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I tried using the uxstyle.com patcher, which had the same issue. But I did manage to fix it.

It turns out it was an issue with the Explorerframe.dll

For anyone with x64 windows 7, Dont replace the Explorerframe.dll in SysWOW64 windows folder. for some reason it causes the error i mentioned earlier.

Use the modified Explorerframe.dll in the System32 folder, but keep the Stock Explorerframe.dll in the SysWOW64 folder.

Great work! Could you please give more direction on how to change all the icons? I've got your archive, Restaurator 2007 (couldn't find 09) and stuck at this point...

Thanks!

yorgash In reply to AstrTrick [2014-02-07 21:28:51 +0000 UTC]

If you mean the taskbar icons, you can use a great app called Taskbar Items Pinner.

For the rest of the icons, I use IconPackager (the free version works good enough, and you can find hundreds of great icon packs either here, or on wincustomize.com).

The navigation icons (in explorer windows, back, forward, stop, etc) are contained in \Windows\system32\explorerframe.dll, that you can rename and copy mine (in the ExplorerFrame folder of the archive) to change.

AstrTrick In reply to yorgash [2014-02-07 22:10:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the fast reply! I could manage the icons so that's great.

Now the explorerframe, when I try to overwrite the existing one with yours, I got a "access denied" error

What did I do wrong please?

Thanks again for your amazing support

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to AstrTrick [2014-02-07 22:17:56 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

I'd advice you only rename it (if you have a backup of the original it never hurts either ways), and copy mine over.

You'll need to restart explorer.exe (or reboot / log out and login) to see the changes.

In case you are having problem with the renaming too, you might need to take ownership of explorerframe.dll first:

technet.microsoft.com/en-us/li…

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AstrTrick In reply to yorgash [2014-02-07 23:17:00 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's super tricky:

1   I add the ownership

2   Could rename the file (explorerframe2.dll)

3   Couldn't copy yours (says alreday exist)

4   Reboot

5   Can't find explorerframe DUH

6   Must have to run the command RENAME to get back on the desktop

7   This time rename your file (explorerframe1.dll)

8   Successful copy

9   Reboot

10 Try via RENAME to remove the 1 in your file

11 Says file doesn't exist...

12 Remove the 2 to get back to desktop

13 Try not to cry

14 Cry a lot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to AstrTrick [2014-02-07 23:50:17 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... try it in this manner:

1. Rename the original file (your Windows\System32\explorerframe.dll) to explorerframe.dll.old

2. Copy my ExplorerFrame\x64\explorerframe.dll simply to Windows\System32 (or x86 if you have 32 bit system) - if it doesn't let you, there's already some kind of problem

Instead of rebooting I suggest you open task manager, go to processes, and close explorer.exe; then file -> new task (Run...) -> type in "explorer.exe" and enter. It's waaay faster than rebooting.

Report back with results!

AstrTrick In reply to yorgash [2014-02-08 00:23:07 +0000 UTC]

And I know for the "killing" process way, I did it last time but as there was no file with the correct name, it crashed

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

AstrTrick In reply to yorgash [2014-02-08 00:18:53 +0000 UTC]

That's what I tried, it doesn't let me copy like if I didn't rename the file, but I did

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yorgash In reply to AstrTrick [2014-02-08 01:40:05 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty awkward.

The only other way around is to open the file with Restorator (assuming 2007 works pretty much like 2009).

With Restorator, you should open \Windows\System32\explorerframe.dll
(or \System\explorerframe.dll, not sure which one), and afterwards
open "bitmap", and replace the files with the ones in the package.
If I'm not mistaken, the numbers of the bitmaps to change are:
280: Frame
288: Go_Stop_Refresh_Dropdown
337: Go
577: Default
578: Hover
579: Disabled
581: Pressed
34560: Go
34569: Stop Default
34575: Stop Hover
34581: Stop Disabled

In case this is NOT the exact numbers, I'm sorry, but you can probably
figure out which one is which though you might have to strain your
eyes a bit.

I hope I could help!
