I really like how you drew Shantae in this. I enjoy the Shantae games alot. While I do find the original now on Virtual Console to be fun, I find that her sequel Risky's Revenge to be more enjoyable. Can't wait for Pirates Curse and 1/2 Genie Hero!

I have been head over heals for Shantae since I first saw pictures of her in a Nintendo Power magazine. The only problem I have (other than her age, but that's another story) is that her games haven't hit Japanese shelves yet. In fact, 99% of WayForward's library of games are almost never released in that country, with Mighty Switch Force being an exception. I feel like I'm the only person that complains about this.

I thought it said her age was unknown...... Just that she "appears" to be around 15.... But being a half genie... who really knows if looking like 15 is really 15 years, and not somewhere over 100?
Anyways, that's a fact I didn't even know. I can't complain about it because we, here in the states, have it. But it would be nice to have more worldwide support for the series.

I personally think having a body as beautiful as Shantae ought to belong to someone who's all grown up. I imagine a reboot of the series in which Shantae herself as a grown up.
Also, I am grateful that we Americans got to play Shantae, but the reason why I complain that it's too American-exclusive is because I often look at some of the promotional artwork for her games and it does not look American to me at all. In fact, the artwork for Risky's Revenge reminded me of anime.
Not only that, but the ironic thing about DuckTales Remastered is that the original DuckTales was released in North America, Japan, and Europe, but Japanese audiences didn't get to play the remake. I don't know how afraid WayForward is to try and get global appeal, to be honest. You're certainly right about worldwide support being a good idea.

YoshiMan1118 In reply to holmesman [2014-04-05 06:30:07 +0000 UTC]
As much as worldwide support would help, they probably don't have the money to distribute it worldwide. As the saying goes, you have to spend money to make money.... But at the chance that Japan, or any other countries didn't like what WayForward did with their games, and refused to purchase them, they could potentially face going out of business with the company not getting much gain from their products. I mean, they've already had to resort to kick starters to fund games (HD Shantae)... That's never a good sign, but at the very same time, it is a good sign, cuz it shows just how much fan support the company, characters, and games have.
And to the whole body and age comment. As said already an age appearance does not necessarily mean she is that age.You can't say she isn't grown up. You can say she isn't mature. In that, I mean a 21 year old woman is fully grown, but not matured, as is a 45 year old woman. But still given that there isn't an official given age to Shantae, or practically any of the characters... then there's nothing to worry about.

I would be very surprised to learn that we Americans are much more supportive of indie developers and characters from indie games than other countries are. If WayForward truly does not have the cash to ship one of their games to Japan, then I am pleased they had enough to ship Mighty Switch Force to that market.Β It would be nice if Japanese gamers continue to download it and enjoy it; perhaps it would be enough to get the sequel released in that country. I also imagine other companies like Nintendo helping WayForward out financially with localizing their IPs, so we may have one day another country that appreciates WayForward's library just as much as we do.
Also, I'm really sorry if I am bugging you with this whole "age" thing. It's just that deviantART takes this policy of nude people in artworks being 18 and older too seriously; it would make much more sense for this to apply if you're uploading a photograph of a real person. I just wouldn't think it should apply to fictional characters, including Shantae, because they're of course not real.

One thing that has called my attention the instant I saw her was the design. Just seeing her belly-dancing gif hypnotizes me. It's so enshantaeing... I could keep watching that for hours for some reason.
Anyways, do you have to pay to download it in Eshop? I might give it a try someday.

Here we go again. :n You need to give more things a try. :m I know it takes a while for you and "your game buddy" to finish games, so you kinda hold off on getting more things that you probably won't get around to due to other games still needing to be beaten.
But yeah, Way Forward has been very good. Few hit or misses, but still overall good. I'm still patting them on the back for making DuckTales Remastered not seem like a dry, piece of crap HD port of the NES game. They wowed me with that one. Seriously. Despite the few minor game freezing issues.
Anyways, thanks dewd.

That's very true. It can land between either not being very interested in something or just falling behind on other more "mainstream" games that I have in my backlog to play. :bΒ But yeah, I always to appreciate the encouragement because it's part of what's gotten me into some pretty cool series I would have otherwise ignored (like the Ace Attorney series, for example).Β
I've heard some pretty good things from them based on the remake, aside from the glitches you mentioned.Β If I ever have time I may look into it, perhaps.
Sure thing dude.

Well anyways, I want her in there, despite my knowing that "not just any old character can be added to SSB."

your experience with this game sounds very similar to my experience with MediEvil on the PS1; I just decided to randomly play it and I was instantly interested. o3o
insterested.
but yah, the main char of that game, Daniel Fortesque, ended up being my main in the upcoming game at the time, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale (still not forgiving that game for not adding Abe from the oddworld games, but I digress. >:I).
anywayz, this is another instance of me not playing this game before and you telling me I should. XP didn't she have a game on the gameboy color as well?

Aaaaaanyways, yes.... you should play Shantae. If not now, then wait for "Pirate's Curse", which claims to be a Quarter 1 2014 release, but I doubt it more and more as Quarter 1 comes closer and closer to an end. Nintendo(and partners) has been very notorious for delays as of late. I dunno why, but it's not making them look so good with their fans. The worst thing in the world to happen is to push back Yoshi's New Island, which is supposed to be 3 weeks away.
And about Dan... he was my 2nd main in PS All-Stars. For sure Nathan Drake was my main for that game. Would be Kratos as well, but I kinda don't like his play style. Especially AGAINST him. People just spam that chain grab move all day. Whether you know how to avoid it or not, it still gets you, or throws you off your game so other opponents can attack you while you're messing around with a spammy Kratos. And I can live with the fact they didn't put Abe in there....... Not putting either Crash Bandicoot, or Spyro in there though, despite my not having any history with those titles... was the ultimate sin for that game. Those 2 defined early life Play Station, and to not have them there would be like not putting Mario in SSB.

lol, I just read it before I commented. XD thus proving I have the memory of a goldfish.
eh, Nintendo's delay stuff doesn't bother me too much. it usually means they're making their product ad good as possible before they send it to the public. the better, the better I always say.
and yah, a Crashless and Spyroless PS all stars made that game.... CRASH AND BURN. :U
