Description This card depicts the leader of the Worgen, Lord Genn Greymane, the King of Gilneas.

Basically it's a legendary werewolf card. The idea behind it is that Genn Greymane transforms into his worgen form and grows strong (green), then transforms back and inspires his soldiers with his strength (red).

I was not really all that content with my previous legendary werewolf card (Garren, Pride of Kestral ), so I wanted to try again, this time with the actual werewolf tranforming mechanic. Also Genn Greymane is badass, so it was inevitable that I'd eventually do a card for him.

Another idea I had floating around was the idea of a creature with both Heroic and Monstrosity. That became Ner'zhul . But, I felt like the idea could be explored a little bit more, so I started out doing the werewolf as a Heroic/Monstrosity combo. The idea was that the human side was heroic and the werewolf side was monstrous. It seemed to fit the flavour.

As I went on, I realised that Monstrosity didn't really fit in here. One, you could only activate it once, and two, it was slow as heck with an added mana cost, and transforming was already a slow process. Also it made no sense whatsoever flavourwise. He was already a werewolf, how does he become more monstrous? And how come he stays monstrous in human form? It was a neat idea but it didn't quite work out.

(Another idea for monstrosity was to have it on the human side, and flip it when you activated the monstrosity cost, and have the monster side have a heroic ability that flipped it back. But again, the monstrosity could only be activated once so I scrapped that idea, even though it sounded cool. I think I may use it on a different card in the future though. Or you can. Feel free to use any idea I put out here, because ideas are cool.)

I had to do a little bit of fiddling around to get the card's frame right, since I was using DFC's, the M15 card frame and clear cards all at once. This card deserves it. It doesn't have the same impact if the frame was not clear, and it had to be Double-Faced because werewolves. Man, having those two pieces of art back to back like that just tickles my fancy. It looks so cool! I'm really satisfied with how this turned out.

It's a combination of Magic Set Editor and GIMP.

It can make the regular double faced ones. Just download the templates here -> msetemps.sourceforge.net/phpBB…

Genn Greymane in particular was custom made though. It's not available as a template there.
