Description
Princess Rosalina is the Princess of the Cosmos and is a member of the Galaxy Council. She is a very powerful figure, as her duty is to watch over and protect the cosmos, while also serving as the adopted mother of the Lumas, and commanding the Comet Observatory. She has no worlds to govern like the other members of the Galaxy Council, she instead rules over space, due to Eldstar and the Queen of Cress being far too busy to do it themselves. There, she governs all that has to do with the galaxy in terms of space. She raises baby stars and Lumas and educates them on the rules of the galaxy and their purpose to become comets, planets, and many more wonderful things. The stars play a big role in the harmony of the galaxy, and Rosalina takes her job extremely seriously, even going as far as letting the Lumas refer to her as "Mama".
Rosalina's backstory begins when she met a younger Eldstar and young Luma in a rusted spaceship, where they rebuilt the spaceship and went to go search for the Luma's mother. On the journey, Eldstar and the child started to grow a close friendship. They traversed through space, encountering comets, asteroids, and Star Bits. Rosalina started to miss her mother, but the three began to build a new home that would eventually become the Comet Observatory. As Rosalina, Eldstar and the Luma started to build the observatory, Rosalina started to take more Lumas under her wing. After they saw their 100th comet, Rosalina looked back at her home planet, which then caused her to feel extremely homesick, where she then had to come to terms that her own mother was dead. Eldstar, feeling nothing but pity and sympathy for the girl, got all the stars and Lumas together and they all told her that her mother is always part of her, and then the young Luma from the voyage transformed into a comet that could traverse to Rosalina's home planet. Rosalina then declared that Eldstar and the Lumas were her family now, and that they would visit her home planet every once in one hundred years. Then, the young orphan was adopted under Eldstar, who became training her to become the future princess of the cosmos.

Rosalina, like the Lumas tell her, is a very motherly figure. She is easily the kindest and sweetest member of the Galaxy Council. She's rarely angry or rude, if at all. She treats almost every creature with love, especially children and stars. She is generally wise, spending her life being raised by Eldstar, and is always willing to give advice. A mature woman, Rosalina is capable and competent, and she takes full responsibility of all her duties. Rosalina is a calm and reserved character, and often takes pauses when she explains how the universe works. She can be joyful and light-hearted, but it can be overshadowed by her introverted nature. She's quite the sophisticated woman from the outside, but her true friends see she does have a more bubbly side. Though she mostly stays reserved and humble, she is no stranger to having fun when she can. She has a deep and intimate knowledge of the galaxy and cares deeply for her friends and Luma children, where she assumes the role of the total caregiver and mother figure for them.
She often reads bedtime stories to the Lumas in the Library. She loves telling stories and even likes to offer to tell the other Galaxy Council members stories, even if they are all grown-up. She is beyond caring, almost too caring in a way. If you threaten her family and friends, she's most certainly going to make sure you don't go unpunished. She takes her mother duties very seriously, so much so she sometimes forget she's biologically not their mother. She's a sucker for 'cute' things, especially children, so whenever she meets one she'll often designate herself as 'caretaker'. She loves to read and write stories, but she mostly dedicates herself to her star children. She seems a bit of an overly serene figure, but she's really optimistic. She sees kindness and redemption in everyone, which can sometimes lead her to be overly-trusting and occasionally naive, despite being quite wise. Charitable and patient, Rosalina is a gentle figure who sees the good in everyone.
However, Rosalina may seem like nothing but pure sweetness, but she goes a bit deeper than that. Spending years and years in space, Rosalina has damaged social skills and though she can be friendly, she is also extremely shy to some. Aside from the Lumas, she can't stand crowds and hordes of people she doesn't know. Her outward strength and inner sorrow are likely due to the loss of her own mother, as well as being isolated from the rest of the worlds. She grew up entirely in space, with only the Lumas, the Stars, and the Galaxy Council members. She's prone to stress and even crying, mainly emotional breakdowns. She can be overly sensitive and a bit 'spaced-out' as her friends put. She gets homesick easily and can even be occasionally distant when she's really upset. However, it's her friends and family that remind her that it's okay and that she means a lot to them. Despite that, even while she loves her loved ones, she still has her doubts and fears. Her biggest fear is losing her family and friends. But luckily, the Galaxy Council and her children are there to remind her that she's just as important and loved as her Galaxy Council family.
Combat:
Rosalina has special powers, similar to Eldstar. Her main powers include telekinesis, creating shooting star showers, gravity manipulation, teleportation, and creating Launch Stars. She can cast down several star based attacks and use her wand to cast star related spells. Rosalina is shown to be skilled with her wand. Also, she can be protected by a force field that resembles a bubble. Rosalina mainly plays defensive when it comes to combat. She does have the power of levitation and can cause other people and objects to float mid-air. Rosalina is able to use her powers to surround the Comet Observatory in a force field, transforming it into a starship as a form of transportation. She has the ability to speak via telepathy too, but she rarely uses this power, though she is willing to use it when needed. Rosalina has also shown the ability to teleport, at least from Earth to space. She is also able to create hologram-like projections of herself and the other Galaxy Council members. She can also use a special spin move, where she twirls around in a veil of light, knocking back any enemies.
Fun Facts:
- She keeps a special storybook detailing her own backstory about how she became princess of the cosmos and about how she came to dealing with the lost of her mother. Additionally, the storybook reveals Rosalina has an unnamed brother and an unnamed, mustached father. But her memories of her male family members are fading.
- Unlike in Super Mario Galaxy, the Platformers version of Rosalina was mostly raised by Eldstar.
- Rosalina had described Princess Peach as Mario's "Special One".
- Her nickname is "The Lady of the Shooting Stars", but Eldstar lovingly refers to her as "Rosie".
