Description Ch. 25: Visiting Hours

The next few days (Y/n) felt more determined than ever. She thought it had been way too long since she’d trained and decided it was time to stretch out those muscles.

She had asked Anti to spar with her. The best practice is against a demon or whoever is attacking her. One of the top three though is a better partner than anything else.

“You have to be faster,” Anti called out. “I could have gotten yer feet, lass.”

(Y/n) breathed heavily. They were going at it for hours and hadn’t taken a break. “I know — I know but if I didn’t block your claws my eyes would have been a goner.” She leaned over her knees as sweat dripped onto the floor.

Anti approached her throwing a towel over his back. “Let’s take a break.”

“NO!” She called out aggressively.

He was taken back by the boom in her voice. “Lass, we’ve been doing this for hours. Hell, for days. Your body needs time to recover from all this exorcize.”

“I still have so much to work on.”

“And that’s alright. Ye got lots of time to figure it out.”

But she didn’t. Nana Rose was dying and she needed to see her asap. She needed to know everything.

“If it helps, yer the strongest, fastest, and trickiest human I’ve ever fought.” He pat her on the back. “Go take a load off lass, we’ll pick this up tomorrow, alright?”

“Whatever you say, Anti, thanks.” She sat up placing her hands on her hips.

She wasn’t done training today. She couldn’t be. There was too much at stake. So she decided the next demon to fight would be the one who brought he down months ago.

Dark.

It wouldn’t be anything serious, but it would be a challenge and that's what she needed.

✂ ————————————

Dark walked down one of the long hallways in search of (Y/n). He had been anxious to know why she’d been so distant the last few days. It was much unlike her as far as he knew.

He had been feeling different since he took her to the skies. Something that confused him, angered him, and overall he wasn’t sure how to take it.

While thinking about this he had a strange feeling that he was being watched. His hair raised on his back, yet every time he turned around there was nothing there.

He decided he’d feel better in a more spacious area, so he made his way to the ballroom. As he walked through the wide doors and down the steps he remembered the music that moved through the room to which hundreds of demons would dance to. The pure joy he would feel being amongst friends.

“I know you’re there.” He spoke up, then turned slowly.

Behind him (Y/n) stood still with her head low. Right away he noticed that she, herself, was off.

“Spero, are you alright?”

“Dark, I need you to fight me.”

He let out a light laugh. “Fight you? And for what reason is this?”

She didn’t answer but rushed towards him. He crossed his arms to block her attack which kept coming until she tried to kick out his legs from underneath. He jumped back from her, utterly surprised and confused.

“Spero, what is the meaning of this?”

“I want you to fight me.”

“Have you lost your mind?” His voice hardened.

She looked up at him with eyes that were becoming lifeless. He didn’t like it. This wasn’t her.

She ignored his words and came after him again. Kicking and punching away. The more he blocked, the harder she hit.

Dark suddenly grabbed her wrists and held them in place. “Look at me!”

(Y/n) gritted her teeth, staring down at the ground. She couldn’t look at him if she did the fight would end.

She pulled her arms back from him, but he didn’t let go. She then kicked him in his stomach causing him to release his grip.

He adjusted himself, fixing his shirt and hair. “I ask you to stop this. You’re acting — strange —“

“You need to fight me.” She raised her voice. “Fight me Dark!”

“I will do no such thing.” He spit back. “I will treat you as a child if you wish to act like one.”

She ignored his words and came hurtling towards him. She decided to pull an old trick her brother would pull while pretending to be a football player and tackled Dark down like a professional defensive player. He went down like a bag of bricks.

(Y/n) straddled his waist and held his wrists down. “Give up?”

He glared her down and before she knew it he had her standing up in a choke hold. “Are you going to calm yourself, Spero?”

She grabbed onto his arm and pulled him over her back, slamming him onto the ground. She was tired, and breathing heavily. “You’re not even a challenge. It’s pathetic.” She then turned and began walking away. “I’ll find a demon worth fighting.”

He appeared in front of her, eyes piercing her own. “Pathetic, hmm?”

This version of Dark wasn’t the one she knew.

Dark grabbed the front of her shirt and pulled her up, her feet dangling in the air. She grabbed his hands trying to pry them.

“Let me go!” She called.

“You’re supposed to be the best, Spero, —“ He smirked briefly before letting it fall to a grim line. “Now prove it.”

As if she was the weight of an apple he tossed her across the room into a pillar. She hit, back first, then fell to the ground.

(Y/n) leaned up on her elbow feeling pain throughout her body. She shook as the feeling overwhelmed her.

There was a hinge of guilt in Dark's chest, but he couldnt identify it. He began to worry as she laid on the floor without moving much. He didn't want to actually hurt her at this point. He began walking over to her with his hands folded neatly behind his back. He bent down at her and lifted her chin with his finger.

“What is the point of this, Spero?”

“She’s dying.” Tears began filling her eyes.

“Who is dying?”

“Nana Rose is dying. Rosie is dying Dark.”

Dark’s eyes widened.

“Rosie is my great- great- great grandmother.” She began sitting up slowly.

He grabbed her arm and pulled it over his shoulder, hoisting her up and began walking. “You’ve been absent for days.”

“Training..” She lightly chuckled. “I don’t know why I bother.”

“Self defense is an important part of training, as well as your offensive attack. It’s always important to exceed your limits.”

“That’s — not why I’m training.” She admitted.

“Oh? Why push yourself to these expectations?”

“I need to get to Nana Rose. I need to talk to her.”

Dark paused. “You’re going to escape.”

“My plan was to leave and come back in the same night without anyone noticing. Training was only for those who got in my way outside the castle doors.”

“Do you even know how to leave the castle properly without being spotted?”

“That was still part of the plan…”

She couldn’t believe she was telling him all of this information and he wasn’t freaking out at all. He seemed curious where she was going with this.

✂ ————————————

“I cannot allow you to leave,” Dark stated plainly.

“You’re unbelievable.” (Y/n) rolled her eyes while walking to her bed. “I thought you’d be the one person to understand.”

“Then you over estimate the relationship we have, Spero.” He sighed. "You must mistake me for Die.."

"Die?!" She scoffed. "I've barely seen him since he too up your postion."

"That's not the point, Spero."

“Yeah, yeah, whatever you say. You can go now.” She was too irritated to argue, king or not.

Dark let out another sigh. “You leaving is a bigger risk than you know. I ask you to understand to the best of your ability.”

“You don’t understand what family is and what it means to me.”

“I never had one, how would I?”

“Ugh—“ She pulled at her hair. “Just go, please. I want to be alone.”

“As you wish.” Dark walked out the door trying to keep his cool.

There was no relationship to overestimate because he wasn’t sure what kind they had. As he walked into the hallway two guards were performing their nightly walk.

“You two,” Dark spoke up. “Stand guard of the human's door. See to it she does not leave till 6 AM, understood?”

“Yes, sir.” They spoke together.

Dark walked across the hall and to his room to do some much-needed thinking.

Meanwhile Anti had been lurking in the shadows of her room the entire time. He opened his eyes revealing his green iris glowing in the corner. He walked out slowly listening to her soft weeps.

She was face first in her pillow, hugging it close to her face.

“Get up,” Anti commanded.

(Y/n) turned around abruptly to see Anti leaning on her bedpost. “Anti?”

“Ye could have just said you needed my help.”

“You’re not the most open to helping, especially a human.”

Anti sighed, “And the door is closing quickly so get ready.”

She smiled and forced her blankets back, getting out of bed as quickly as possible. “How are we going to get out though? I heard Dark call guards over to the door.”

“I’m going to take us there, don’t worry.”

She slid on a hoody, pulling the hood up.

He did the same then grabbed her arm, blurring them away. The reappeared inside a dirt tunnel that was dimly lit.

(Y/n) gazed around, her vision becoming straight again. This wasn’t the tunnel she had been in when she first arrived.

“Remember the tunnels I told you about.” Anti tucked his hands in his hoody pocket. “This is one of them, but it’s closed off from further investigation.”

“Why’s that?”

“Because it connects to yer tunnel. We made an agreement, remember?”

“Yeah.. I do..”

“I can take ye to the tunnel, and I can help ye get to’er but once we arrive yer going to have to direct me — tell me what to do or where to go. We get caught we’re both goners, got it?”

“Loud and clear my dude. Just keep an arm on me, alright? That way you can blur us away if needed.”

“I like the way you think, (Y/n). I’ll lead the way.”

Anti grabbed onto a section of her hoody and lead her to a small opening in the wall that lead to a tunnel that looked a lot like home. They were all basically designed the same way.

Carefully they looked around making sure no one was coming down it. Guards sat at the beginning and the end of the tunnel.

Together they made their way down it. Anti used his energy to turn off the dim lights along the way so no one could spot them.

It wasn’t long before the reached the end where two guards stood casually waiting. No demon ever attacked because no demon ever knew where the base was. It was a laid back job mostly given to new recruits.

“I’m not sure how we’ll get past them without hurting them…” She pondered.

“I have an idea. Show them who you are and I’ll do the rest.”

“Are you nuts?” She whispered loudly.

“Just do it, alright?”

(Y/n) rolled her eyes and walked out from the shadows towards the two guards.

“STOP!” The brunette called out, pointing a gun at her.

She lowered her hood slowly.

The both gasped before lowering their weapons.

“I am the great great great daughter of Rosie Scheid. I have escaped Dark’s castle.”

Anti had appeared behind both of them. He came up behind the brunette and breathed out hard. The soldier took one breath and passed out, falling to the floor.

“Come on dude. Don’t pass out. She needs us.” As the second guard turned Anti stood directly in his view.

Before he could say a word Anti breathed in his face causing him to pass out as well.

“Very clever, Anti, but won’t they remember this?”

Anti cracked his fingers. “Do you really think anyone is going to believe them?”

“You have a point…”

He approached her slowly. “Alright, for my next trick, I’ll be taking us into the building, but I need yer help.”

“How can I be of assistance?”

“I don’t know the layout of this place, but you do. I need you to focus on one room. One room that has no one in it. I need you to picture it in your head, can you do that?”

“Of course I can.” She shut her eyes and began focusing.

Anti took his hands and placed them over her temples. He closed his eyes as well and began picturing the room in his mind. Within a flash, he blurred them to that room.

“Where are we?” Anti spoke up.

(Y/n) quickly covered his mouth and held a finger up to her lips then pointed off across the room. Her father laid on a bed, fast asleep. She didn’t know he’d be there, and it’s the last person she’d want to see. She then grabbed a sleeve of his jacket and pulled him along quietly to the door. They both slid out and into a hall.

Since it was night there wouldn’t be many people moving about the base. This gave them a quick way around people, hiding behind large items and shadowed areas. (Y/n) searched for any signs of a medical hall or wing. She hadn’t been too accustomed to the building after all. It didn’t take long before her eyes found a red cross above a double doorway.

She continued to pull him along into the double doors and down a large room with beds on either side of them. They were all empty. She knew they wouldn’t keep her in one of these, but one of the private rooms.

“Are ye sure you know where yer going?” He whispered to her.

“I’m not sure, but if I know how we work, I know she’ll be in one of these doors.”

The doors held a small window in the middle of them that was slightly blurry so the patient could enjoy their privacy. None of the rooms were lit except one. (Y/n) took a deep breath and placed her hand on the handle, turned it slowly and walked inside.

Rose sat sitting up in her bed with a book in her hands. She was bundled up warm with a lamp to the right of her.

(Y/n) could hardly believe she was seeing her. “Nana?”

Rose looked up from her book happy to see (Y/n) but confused to see Anti. Someone she hadn’t seen in a very long time.

“(Y/n),” Rose breathed, with a smile forming on her face. “You — got out?”

“It’s not permanent.” She pulled her hood down walking over to her. “Don’t mind Antisepticeye. It’s a long story Nana.”

“Contrarium, it’s been a while hmmm?” Rose held her smile.

“It has been quite a while.”

(Y/n) wrinkled her brow. “You two know one another?”

“Not on good terms dear, but at one time we did have what I’d call — a friendship.”

She paused as she sat down, looking over at Rose. “Nana, I had a dream about Paps..”

“I know you did.” She sighed. “I knew this day would come sooner or later.” She closed her book.

“Nana, why didn’t you tell me he was a demon?”

“Sweetheart look around you. Look at what we are. We are everything that stands against what your Papy was.” Rose reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder. “My time is coming, (Y/n) and someone needs to know the truth.”

“You mean Dad doesn’t even know?”

“I was going to die with the secret, but that wouldn’t be fair to you, hmmm? After all, you’re going to change the world.” Rose sighed, then looked over at Anti. “Anti, dear, please, take a seat. I’m sure you can hear what’s going on outside while you sit.”

Anti nodded taking a seat next to (Y/n).

“Now, dear. Why don’t you tell me about this dream?”
