The thing is, is that the producers originally intended for Asami to be an Equalist spy by getting to Korra through Mako, but changed it after developing her character.

(...If you ever watched the Korra specials they were airing in July with Bryke's commentary, they mention that initially Asami was supposed to do just this, but they ended up liking her so much that she became a permanent part of the team. Another reason why she was so suspicious haha!)

I'm very happy they didn't go that route. It would have been way to predictable, and Asami wouldn't have become half the character she is now, which would have been a real darn shame.
Personally, I started loving her AFTER she made it clear that she won't betray the others and choose them instead of his father.
Then I was affraid that her love for Mako would turn her back to her father's side, but she stayed loyal even though she had to suffer for it a lot.
And she handled every obsticle with such class and inner strength that surprised me again and again - truly a woman to be admired.

Well, you should take a look at them! They're on youtube, on a channel run by the Avatar Destiny Portal page (or one of their affiliates, I'm not quite sure right now xD)
Personally, I never hated Asami at all. I was disappointed initially because I felt she was a little dry, but I like the obstacle she created for Korra. (After all, Korra's used to getting everything she wants on a whim. So things like spirituality, airbending block, not getting the guy she likes to fall for her at a snap of her fingers, it all pleased me haha.) But I REALLY grew to like her in episode seven because of the exact incident you mentioned. From then on, she's grown to be a great character and role model. I hope she keeps soaring from where the staff last left off

XDD I cheered her on when I realized what the writers were going to do with her character. I think it was something along the lines of "YES! AN OBSTACLE FOR KORRA!" hahaha... not that I hate Makorra (I ship it), but nothing in life comes easy. And if there's anything about the Avatar world/story I love the most, is that even though it's a children's show, they express those hardships in a very relatable way.

: DDD I admit I was one of those who thought Asami was a spy, but for different reasons, I haven't even watched that Batman cartoon. Till the last episode I was convinced Asami either was the whole time or would turn to be the enemy, and to be honest, I still don't really trust her :'D And now that the book 2 is coming, my suspicions shall be revived! I mean, she's way too pretty and perfect and tragic to be a good guy, right? |D

Well, there were a lot of deviants who's works containing sreenshots were taken down due to copyright infrigment - including me - , and after doing some research, I noticed that a lot of users go around flagging people for this reason, which makes DA remove their work, since basically everything that's not created from scratch is techincally "breaking the rules".
