Magical items are often thought of as a boon to the adventuring sort. They radiate intense magical benefits to their wearers and often ensorcelled them to new heights. The seeking of such items itself may be a motivation unto adventuring altogether. And while Fighter is hardly a material girl, she can't help but enjoy the benefits of some wondrous items now and again for all her hard work!

Enter her boots. Soft, comfortable leather, pliant on her feet, and pulsing with the energy of the arcane. She snatched them up promptly after an adventure to a particularly nasty island of terrors, liches and aberrations and gave them a fit. Summoning ghosts, extra speed and the ability to sense magic are all wonderful boons to a fighter like her, so she laid claim to them, absolutely unaware that the pair were horribly cursed...

Wearing the boots is well and good, giving the wearer the surge of magical energy and spellcraft they'd expect from these items, which Fighter enjoyed with gusto. But taking them off...that risked the ire of the spirits inhabiting them. Every time these boots were taken from Fighter's tired, worn feet, the spirits increased their anger for Fighter's presumption...Until at long last, they stole from Fighter her soul as she slipped the lovely magical things from her workaday feet after a day of battle.

With a cacophonous energy swirling about her ankles, the girl's soul was torn from her soles, ignoring her admittedly odorous peds and leaving only an empty, dead husk of a woman. That's the price you pay meddling with spirits that demand the attention of the living, I suppose...Ranger later enters after he hears Fighter's mug clack to the table, finding his beloved cold and dead, her smelly boots at her side. Well, I can imagine you can guess what goes on after that, knowing this particular Ranger...his favored enemy is the dead, so it's no surprise he favors his dead lover's own smelly, sweaty feet...
