“It’s great to have you over for Christmas Dinner, Blaine” Carole smiled at him from across the table.

His parents were working and didn’t care where he spent Christmas Eve, as long as he was back on Christmas Day, so they could pretend to care and give him presents. It wasn’t that much of a surprise to him that Kurt invited him over as soon as he heard it, but he was glad Carole and Burt agreed to him spending the night at their place.

“Thank you for having me, Mrs. Hummel” he replied softly, and she laughed, “How often do I have to tell you? It’s Carole. Don’t make me feel older than I actually am.”

She winked, and everyone giggled. They’ve all heard this conversation many times, but Blaine wanted to make sure he was still wanted. Sometimes it still was hard to believe he was accepted and wanted within Kurt’s family - but he loved the feeling of it. He also loved the feeling of Kurt’s hand which was now grabbing his, squeezing it for a moment. They looked at each other, and broke out into huge smiles. Kurt even blushed a little before he let go and continued eating. It was the best Christmas Dinner Blaine had had in years, and the evening had barely even started.

“Go ahead - we’ll catch up with you guys in no time!” Kurt called out to his parents who were already waiting outside with Finn.

They looked at him confused, but shrugged and started their walk around town, something Burt and Kurt had always done and Carole considered it was perfectly fitting for a beautiful night like this. Blaine looked at his boyfriend curiously, but didn’t say anything. Instead, he enjoyed the embrace he found himself in, pulling Kurt closer.

Kurt wiggled free, one hand on Blaine’s chest, and saying “Wait here for a moment.”

He watched as Kurt rushed into his room and could hear him rummaging in there, but didn’t follow. He still stood in the middle of the living room, not knowing what to expect, as Kurt came back, a little box in his hands, wrapped in Christmas paper. Blaine’s eyes got huge, and his mouth fell open a bit.

“You… I mean it’s not… You shouldn’t have,” he stuttered as Kurt closed the distance between them, reaching for his left hand.

Their fingers intertwined, and Kurt beamed at him.

“I know it’s a little early, but I couldn’t wait anymore. Besides, I figured it’d be better if you opened that one now instead of in front of my family in the morning.”

Blaine look at him confused, trying to reach for the present, but Kurt held it out of reach for him.

“Wait a second, boy” he laughed, kissing him shortly.

Kurt drew in a breath, blushing again as he started talking.

“Blaine, I love you. And this is why I’m making a fool of myself right now, because I’m the silly romantic today. I bought us something that I hope you’ll like and, um… Maybe you should just open it.”

He handed the box over to Blaine, who took it carefully and opened it.

“Oh my god, Kurt!” He called out in shock, but hurried to add “I love it, I absolutely do – and you’re not silly romantic. Well, actually you are and I love it. So much.”

He stepped forward, crashing their bodies together, kissing his boyfriend deeply and smiling at him as they parted again. His eyes darted to the box again to find the rings still in it, two simple silver bands sitting in dark blue satin.

“May I?” Kurt asked, and Blaine nodded joyfully.

Kurt took one of them, reaching for Blaine’s hand again and said “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me, and we may have been through some misunderstandings and fights - but I’d never want to miss or change anything that has happened, and I love you so, so much. Will you take this ring as a promise from me to never stop loving you, no matter what?”

There were tears glistening in both of their eyes as Blaine whispered his answer “Yes, of course I will.”

Smiling, the ring was slid on his finger, and he took the second to slide it onto Kurt’s. Their fingers intertwined again, this time with the new sensation of metal against skin, but they looked at each other, grinning, knowing that this was these rings were only the beginning.
