Description ...I hope it's not too hard?

The picture on the right features Diogo from the latest page of my webcomic [link] The other one was of Smaug (from the Hobbit by Tolkien) from a while ago... I found it when I was cleaning out my room at about the same time I was working on pencils for that particular comic page and thought "I should post them together, just for the fun of it." So I did.
I really don't even know when Smaug was drawn, now I'm thinking it might have been earlier than 2004, but I don't know seems how I never wrote the date on my stuff back then. I guess it would've been a better comparison if they were both the same character (seems how Diogo wasn't even close to existing back then [although he'll probably tell you he did]), and I know Diogo isn't breathing fire, and one is digital and the other is colored pencil, but oh well. It's neat to see how much has changed.

Smaug belongs to the genius/mastermind of fantasy who is John Ronald Ruel Tolkien. (And he's also an awesome writer.)
Diogo and the artwork belong to me.

Only ten? I love these kinds of artwork comparisons. And to think that drastic improvement happened over only 5 years, or so.

Gotta agree with you; Tolkein = Genius. :]

Aw, thanks! Lol if I get really brave, I might upload pics of when I first came up with Darcog. I wasn't bad at animal characters, but I was awful at anything remotely human.

You need to make the big view image a little bigger.

Hah! I've done this before too. Isn't it funny when you look back at old stuff and wonder how you ever thought it was the best of your ability and then wonder how did you get to your current level in the given amount of time?

Truly amazing change in art style. I have to say I like the 2009 version better, though 2004 does have something....cutesy, if childish.

See if you can use the old sketch anywhere. (These things are useful for when you need a little kid's picture and you can't draw anything that works)

I should make it bigger, but I think got rid of the bigger file.... (I'm still getting used to what size a file should be when I go to post it.)

Yeah, I love it when that happens, especially if you feel like you're not getting anywhere artwise. I've looked at some stuff from just a few months before and I think "seriously? I thought that was good?"
I'm just surprised that I thought that version of Smaug could actually fly, although some of Diogo's anatomy is a bit questionable (he was giving me a really hard time that day). I've definitely learned a lot more about anatomy. Writing a research paper on birds helps too.

And- completely off topic, but do you have any characters you'd like me to randomly stick in crowd scenes in my comic? Just for fun, so I don't get bored drawing random faces.

Just the preview needs to be bigger like in the 900px size. It's difficult to see unless I download it.

I did one of those a little while ago where I compared something from three years ago to something recent only to find that now I despise the 'recent' picture because it looks nothing like how I draw now, four months later.

The only thing I see a little off about Diogo is his wingspan is too short. He'd probably only be able to glide short distances. The redeemer about this is that it's a comic and so you have only a limited amount of space and it's fantasy: You can easily say that dragons fly by inflating their lungs with hot air to make themselves float more easily and by infusing magic into their bodies to help bend those awful rules of gravity.

Hah, sure. I've got about a bazjillion. I'll stick up a few rough sketches under scraps. You can have fun with dress up, the majority of my chars don't have costume designs finished yet.

(HOORAY! My grandparents' internet is working at a decent speed!!) I might try messing with size next time I upload stuff.

Yeah, I would've made his wingspan bigger, but he was giving me an incredibly hard time anatomy-wise and I was like "forget it, this is good enough." I could just say that he hasn't quite finished transforming yet.
