Description -2020 머매이 인어5월 3일: 에른스트 스트로머, 스티브 어윈과 스피노사우루스

(Some may find it super unconventional and hard to understand this image without context, and may find it an odd way to depict famous people who has contributed to our understanding of nature, drawn alongside a weird mermaid version of an extinct animal for some reason. I don't blame you for thinking that, I just got some weird creative juices flowing because of the idea of drawing whatever relates to mermaids on the merry month of mermay.)

Spino Time. A bit of a bummer I missed Day 3 for real and kinda had to rush and how as I upload it's just turned Day 5. Oh well. At least I got to contribute to NEWT SPINO NEWT SPINO.

You may not think of this design as a proper "mermaid", though you could say the same about other mermaid designs that aren't based on true "fish" (Jellies, Whales, Ocotpus, Seals. Heck, anything vertebrate is technically "fish" to an extent. So humans are full on mermaids by default confirmed?)

In Latest news, everybody's favourite Megalosaurian theropod. Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, finally has a strange tail that goes along with the rest of its weird shaping in general.
From what I know, the discovery, naming, and subsequent study of the Original Egyptian Spinosaurus specimen was Ernst Stromer, a German scientist best known for his work on fossil animals of the Bahariya formation. Sadly, during the war, the Spinosaurus fossils in Munich got bombed, and so Spinosaurus was lost to time once more. Long story short, there have been many subsequent studies on Spinosaurus with new findings painting a better picture of it than ever. Going from: 'Allosaurus with a sail' to, 'Baryonyx with a sail', to 'Looooong Baryonyx with a sail' to 'Long sail boy all around.'

So, Spinosaurus mermaid for Mermay right? Yes, and as an idea to pay tribute to Stromer here he is paddling along a river wearing his expedition suit, with his trusty giant spoon bone thing he found in the desert, tagging along with him is the Crocodile hunter himself.

A current topic of contention is whether this new Spinosaurus tail means it used the tail for swimming as a paddle and main mode of propulsion. So far I haven't heard anyone say it possibly being used as a rudder for ease of turning while paddling along regardless of whether or not it could dive to chase food underwater.

Spinosaurus mermaid design and colours based on pop-culture Egyptian iconography, mainly depictions of Cleopatra. Perhaps I could call her "SpinoPetra"

(Alternate title: Fossil Hunter, Croc Hunter, and Shark Hunter.)
Special thanks to all the humans who has contributed to human understanding of the natural world in general and acknowledgement of the many unsung heroes of science who rarely gets or got recognised by the general public. None of this would be known without all of them.
