On the surface, Ayre is a gentleman who is kind and helpful to others. He has a friendly demeanour and warm tone, always willing to greet the people around him.

Unafraid to put himself forward to help someone in need, he brings a warm attitude and good work ethic wherever he goes. He confronts others if a democratic solution can be reached, but will otherwise dodge conflict. Although he will put across as humble he genuinely believes that he is in the right no matter what -- he's not above bowing his head for image's sake but can be dismissive (and holier-than-thou) when faced with contrasting views. He dislikes appearing vulnerable in the eye of others and may withhold more personal thoughts when confronted.

The tendency to put others' needs above his own is shown mostly through his work, now more than willing to heal others even knowing that his losses will be permanent... though disregarding his health does not make him the good he thinks he is. Fitting himself in the martyr's role is something he aspires to - unfoundedly sure that there will be some reward in throwing himself away.

Born in Delverne as the third of four children, Ayre was one of many healers-to-be in the Ordvan family. Due to the tragic implications of the craft it was a long-standing tradition in the line that no one was, under any circumstance, to pursue exorcism. Among his siblings, he was the one who sought to stand out. He would spend his time trying to establish their differences and find a place in the world that hadn't already been shaped for him. When it came time to refine his healing skills, he chose to step outside of the household with a variety of different mentors. During his acolyte training he decided he would try to understand the difference and discover which he would be best at, instead of mindlessly following the rest of his family.

In the end, he opted for exorcism. Finding its abilities to create offense inspiring and the healing speed incomparable, he sought to utilize it as quickly as possible. If he worked hard enough, his parents could even be convinced to relinquish their old and outdated fears...

Although he made fleeting visits and kept in occasional contact with his siblings, Ayre returned only when called back to the main household by a request for aid. An illness had spread through many people in their care, filling their beds to capacity. With his eldest brother away, Ayre and his sister were called to assist the healers and also demonstrate how far they had come in their studies. Still new to his exorcist powers, Ayre struggled to work on his healing and keep bad humours at bay. But even doing his best to disguise his methods, the truth became apparent soon enough.

Reluctant to bend to their scorn Ayre sought the advice of a friend, one who (casually) suggested a seasoned mage to him. Although she sounded unreliable about his predicament, he was caught immediately when she mentioned this convenient acquaintance of hers could help him fend the shadow of his exorcism ills away. That if he sought his advice, Ayre would be able to show that he was fine to work(, right? Maybe you'd just get sick a month later or something.)

Even if just for appearances, it was too good to be true. But with the worry that he might be kicked out or forced to relearn his craft, Ayre decided to seek the mage's expertise. Even if there was a slim chance that magic may be able to improve his resilience, he wanted to take it. Anything was better than losing his place or starting again from scratch. (It likely won't help at all,) he was told -- (the last fellow who tried, I've not heard from in years.)

For a decade, it was enough. Although he'd expected little from the mage, he found that performing hefty exorcisms would leave him tired, but not seem to damage his health.

Over time, he found himself using more salt on his food.

It took years before it became noticeable but unmistakeably, his sense of taste was dulling. He quickly sought out the mage again for some manner of reassurance. But the magic that he'd clung to was not preventing his health from suffering, but made him ignorant to it. He had been fooled into thinking that he was able to overcome the woes of exorcism with magic, numbed to it in the short term -- but there had still been a price to pay for his recklessness and so long as he was healing, he would continue to pay that price. Fearing that his condition would be revealed to his family Ayre left both healing and his home with little explanation, out to find a cure. He travelled the lands in the hopes of finding help but came up empty-handed.

Wanting to take his mind off his failures, he paused his search to work the Cantish lands. He decided to stop his healing, praying that Aurea might guide his path.

As time passed, he found that there was a need for a healer in his area of town - the abilities he had tried to bury were unearthed within the year. Helping those who had been injured in an accident just once had spread his abilities about the neighbourhood. Convinced by the working folk who had supported him that it was his true calling, that his help was a blessing, he slowly began to extend his reach back into healing.

In the years that have passed, his fear of losing his senses has turned into a misguided self-assurance. That even if he gives everything he has for the sake of healing, there will be a greater reward for him somewhere.

Ayre currently runs a small practice, but has recently stepped out into more vigorous healing with the influx of troubled citizens sheltering in Cantor.
