Mewwwwww~~!
Kitty with Enelya Oronrá, Elven Princess of Gweneth.

---

Another gift for my best friend. It's her birthday gift from last year xDD Hehehe... A key goes with it, I'll attach that to the picture in a minute. I still need to figure out how to do it... It's a pendant... Hmm.

Drawing in different perspectives is hard. Especially the bird's eye view. X-x Sheesh!
I also made a few mistakes with the highlights. >__< The light is on the top left... Argh.
And I made a mistake with the girl's arm. TxT The black part of her sleeve is supposed to fall "down". xD Instead of doing that I made it look like it's flying off somewhere and defying gravity xDD

Hooray for squares xDDDDDDDD

For Critique-It:
I'd like to know how my coloring style is and how I could do better.
And for the pose... I can't change that anymore, but it would be nice to know what I need to pay attention to in the future.
Thank you!

You asked for a critique on your coloring, so I'm going to be honest. You did a good job on the shading of the dress, however, I would question the shading you did on the skin. The left hand comes to mind mostly, and to me, it looks like the outline is a bit too thick and the the grey shading looks odd. I'd recommend using a similar shade as the skin color but a bit darker, like you did for the hair. Something that I really like about this is the shadow beneath the cat, I think you did a really good job with that, and you should do the same for the elf's left hand, and have the shadow of it on her body. The last thing I'd like to point out is the checkered floor. I think you should color those a little a darker.

Ahh~ I suck at critiquing, but here goes.

First of all...I would say your coloring is pretty good. The shading on the dress is lovely.

But before you do any coloring at all, decide a light source. Is it from above, from the left...once you have, you will have no problem coloring. When I look at this picture, I would think it's coming from the left, hence the cat's shadow, but then on the girl's upper body it appears as if the light is from above. Same with the hair, and the face. Just work with light sources!

Of course, perspective is kind of annoying to work with, but also fun..the cat doesn't look like he's with the girl, or he's on the floor...maybe if you drew him from a more "above" look, like, not so much of his body is shown leaning to the right. Try all sorts of perspectives and you'll be mastering it in no time.

Critiques aside, this is a pretty good picture. I love her dress, and the floor design. It makes a nice birthday gift indeed e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

Critique request from #Traditional-Media :
Very beautiful composition, the girl is just lovely and coloring is very nice.
I think you did good with coloring, technique is nice however I think there’s an overall issue with the placement of shadows and lights, for example look at her left hand, colors on her glove are lighter around the corner of her fingers and go darker towards the middle of her hand, I don’t really get why that is this way because there’s not a light source coming from the floor therefore it should be the other way round, darker in the corners and lighter in the middle. You need to keep in mind from where exactly your light sources are coming when coloring your drawing.

Anatomy is pretty good; however she looks a little bit flat. Overall it needs darker tone to give the girl’s body a 3d effect.
Also perspective on the cat seems to be off compared to that of the girl, it seems on the girl as if the viewer is directly on top of her, however on the cat it looks like if the viewer is only in front of him a maybe a little bit up, but not the same as it is for the girl.

Overall this is nice piece, very good composition and I love the attention you put to all details. Keep up the nice work!

I am critiqueing on the second piece. I love this so much. It has an amazing 3d illusion to it which makes it sort of magical. The expression on her face is amazing; it speaks for help and anguish. Where as the cat looks so astounded. I just adore how you have made the image look so 3d as it is. The background of the squares adds to the effect also. The only thing i would say to improve on is that maybe you could do another one which is alice in wonderland themed. That would make it cooler. I don't really know if i agree with the hair colour. It seems a bit much. The shading is amazing i just wish she had a better expression on her face but overall 8/10!

I do like this story book feel to the style, even for anime. You have a creative choice in clothing design, really liking the detail in the dress. Her hair is very organically composed, it really helps move the eye around the piece. The movement of the hair leads the eye into the detail of the dress. The addition of the cat helps to keep from having dead spots in the piece where the viewer's eye doesn't get stuck.

The first problem my eye is drawn to is the arm laying on the floor: First, the the fore arm is too long. Your fore arm when you bend your elbow to meet your shoulder should roughly be the same length, maybe a tad longer, going from elbow to finger tips. Also the way you separate the glove from the skin is a little much, it looks like a thick rubber material.
Also your light source seems to be a little questionable judging from the shadows.

First of all the image all together gives a really great impression to the viewer; nice colours and well put together! I love the background idea it is hypnotizing and fits the characters ~ also gives some very warm atmosphere. I also like a lot your concept and well captured you also used the size of paper well and placed everything in order

About the colouring/shading I see it would need some corrections though
What I truly miss from this work is the strong contrasts. The shadowed parts are weak and some places barely visible and this way your pretty work is lack of deepness. With stronger contrast you are able to make way more talkative piece and bust up the atmosphere and that way the first impression too

I wouldn't mind some stronger dark shadow where the figures are touching the floor because this way feels like she is floating above the floor and disturbs the harmony a little. I also would add more potent colour shadows on her clothe and also on her skin and hair.
When you colour try to imagine where the light actually comes from and imagine some arrows from that direction which could help you with the shading part and where these arrows barely reaches use strong potent shades and where the light touches in first line leave it very light coloured.
If you get a white gel pen you can add more details and use at some part white contour to put that part more bright and build with it on your contrast.

If I see well the first light comes from above ~ in that case I am sure that her hand should give shadow on her face more visible that would give great depth to your artwork!
Adding more white part around the hands also could give us the feeling that her hand is really farer from her body for example. Only little editing with the colouring and you could make a very strong and powerful piece with it

As you said the anatomy is fixed you can't correct anything with it any more so I keep that part untouched since all together it is a lovely work and I adore your detailing with the clothe and floor

I hope my suggestion can help you and your future improvement

your colouring style is pefect, when i need an illistrater for my books i'll send you a note.

the pose is unique but i would've gone for a standing pose with maybe a bit of shaddow.

this is really nice! I love your colouring style, you use pencils wonderful. Nice bright consistent colour. Although personally I would have just made those tiles black - the grey gives it a faded look. The pose looks great - especially with the hand. I always have difficulty doing those types of poses. However, I'm not too sure what kind of pose you're aiming for - is she falling towards the floor or just lying on it. Looking at the perspecitve of the cat it kinda looks like she's falling towards it. But the shadow kind of gives the impression she's just on a flat surface. If she is falling, her hair should be kind of waving about her face and her body bending in an arch shape. also, if she's falling I would have her mouth open in shock, she looks quite calm as it is. As it is thought, it's a great piece, I do love the design of her dress.
