Description This is where it all started. As you see, I got rid of the DDR arrows. The fact is, I really don't like how the finished product turned out. I mean, the coloring was okay - barely mediocre. I rushed it towards the end to get it posted on here. I regret doing that.

So this is the original sketch of Selphie on her lil' DDR arrows. I got the idea for this drawing from dancing to Cowgirl by Bambee a million too many times Lol

So yeah. I like this far better.

i like how you draw girls with some weight to them instead of stick-thin. I love the curves of her body and stance, especially in her legs. Pretty cool.

Thank you. Women are beautiful, and above all, my favorite thing to draw. I'm glad you appreciate their linear aethstetics!

You've got some serious penciling skills.

Have you ever tried penciling a background in with your subject matter?

Jesus...

If you have...If you do...

Goddamn.

I like how in all of your people they have more muscle(sp?). It can some times be rare to find in artist who doesn't make their people as scrony as possible.

Eeee.... Very nice, I like this --- even so Selphie annoys the hell outta me >_<;; But she's cute, and your style just makes her look even cuter. I rather like the pose, actually, I think that it does suggest a fair bit of the movement that it was supposed to, but then I have a pretty good idea of how the steps are for that, I think, so to me it's like she's just glancing over in mid-motion.

Bah -- her left eye is closed, she just has shiny eyelashes! Adds to the cuteness factor majorly, of course. Love the blend of realistic proportions and anime-ish? style.

=3 w00t. Thank you for the compliments! I heart Selphie muchly, but my favorite Final Fantasy Character (besides Miss Tilmitt) would have to be Lulu, from 10. If I had the dedication to my own art, I'd draw her up.

But yeah - thanks again!

The hand and shoulders are awesome. especially that hand, very lifelike.
Someone on the colored piece remarked that there was something wierd about the hat. I think it's that belt around it. if you look, it's sloping in the opposite direction to the brim of the hat.
I know you dislike the color one, but I think this pic needs some color. it's too happy and vivacious to be black and white. plus, it helps to see how all the creases in the dress lie when they're shaded.

one other thing is that those are not cowboy(girl?) boots. Speaking as someone with a substantial cowgirl fetish (I'm from the midwest, what do you expect), the boots can make or break the image.

Her left eye looks a bit off too, like it's not quite closed all the way. I'd suggest filling it in to make it a solid wink.

Just 2 more things:

1: I love the way you make women well proportioned, but believable. you follow body shapes quite well.

2: her feet seem to be flat on the ground. that's great if she's holding a still pose, but if she's supposed to be on DDR, her pose should imply motion, think of when you play, you spend most of your time on your toes. I love the idea of her dancing, and I love her pose currently, but I don't think they work together.

Welcome back LOL

At any rate, the boots are part of her outfit from her original character design. Selphie is from Final Fantasy VIII, and I didn't want to screw with it too much. The hat is actually Irvine's, her little starcrossed boytoy. As you may have seen, I tried to color it, but to no avail. I'm currently waiting for another talented Deviant Artist to have a crack at her, and I'm rather excited about it.
The pose I got from my own DDRing skillz - the song cowgirl on Standard involves standing and switching feet. The moves are simple, therfor I act like I'm lassoing. My friends do this as well. I could have implied her feet moving for a more vivacious looking image, but I guess this is something that I learn for the next one, right?

Oh yeah. There will be a next one LOL Either Selphie or DDR. I have an odd fettish with the both of them.

But yeah -- I always look foreward to your critiques!

I just stopped my 5 hour FF8 playing a little while ago...and I love that song...Bang bi-doo bang....Ooh. I was going to ask if I could color it...but then I thought that might be rude. But now I realize someone else asked, so I'll ask too. Can I color this pleeeeease?

*after looking at the Selphie's nose, and then yours from your Dev information* Oh okay I see where the nose comes from now LOL, good stuff though, I like your use of line art, it kicks! KICKS!

LeyWink In reply to yurchan [2003-12-02 06:49:45 +0000 UTC]

I agree completely, LoL. My Fundamentals instructor said that illustrators have a tendency to incorporate some of their physical traits into their original characters, and I completely agree.

I dunno what mine would be, though... maybe the nose, as well? All of the characters I do in my own style tend to look alike. =B

But, getting back on topic... I love how this turned out, both the colored version and the original sketch. Beautiful as always. <33
