This the 2nd part of my Animus series exploring the topic of inner ghost/demon that I had to do for class. We were told to interpret ghost/demon in any way we want, so I chose the theme of phobia.
I have this strange phobia of human infants (but not other animal infants). They just give me nightmares for some reason, and I can't even stand the sight of a baby. Needless to say, I never want to get pregnant. However, I'm fine with looking at the very early stages of a fetus when they still share many characteristics with fish (ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny, although not exactly).
Since I have no desire to mother a human baby, I can't empathize with those who do want to become mothers, and that lack of empathy bothers me. While I was doing research for another story of mine, I read about how new dams (which also leads to greater water pollution) are decimating the fish population as well as causing still births in the surrounding villages. Some women can't even get pregnant.
Evolutionarily speaking, life's purpose is to reproduce. Technically we're suppose to pass on our own genes, but in a greater sense, it's also to preserve to our kind. But should our own kind be limited to human kind or all life in general? Of course, humans need other organisms to survive so there's no choice regardless of your personal beliefs.
In conclusion, my inner demon is the turmoil between my phobia of babies and the belief that life's goal is to reproduce. I'm also unsettled by my lack of sympathy for those humans who can't reproduce. I want to convince myself that human infants are no different than any other animals, like fish. I should care about the infertile women affected by water pollution as much as I care about the fish, but no matter how hard I try, I truly only have sympathy for the fish.
So are you all weirded out yet? XD (I'm pretty normal other than that)

I like kids, but I hate babies too, Children are an open book that can grow up to do anything. But babies are pudgy disgusting little things that make the most horrible noise a human can hear.
I think I'd rather adopt. The world is overpopulated and filled with unwanted children, it's better to give a home to one that's already there than to selfishly spread my genes around.

Infant phobia?? It's the first time I hear something like that T_T it must be awful considering I absolutly love babies and infants ;_; I hope that doesn't disturb you a lot on your daily life

A human being's biological purpose is to reproduce and continue the gene pool. But the purpose of an individual is another story. You can choose a reason for living (as it keeps you alive) and it can be as simple as love for your work. Don't think you're failing humanity by not producing children. You're not failing yourself either. Your art will be the mark you leave on this world and if not your genes then the inspiration you will give other children the world wide who will also decide to become artists.
Your purpose may be to live and affect those around you. Think on it.

What about the fact that you have been an infant yourself, and everybody has to go through that phase? It is very skillfully done, though. A bit uneasy to look at.

I love the pearlescent skin tone you gave her. <3 It's quite lovely.
Also, I'm not weirded out at all. xP I honestly can see where you're coming from, and it's actually a pretty interesting view you have on those things.

Like the way you've displayed the phobia. Although, possibly the reason you have it, and why alot of people, between your age and mine are saying they don;t want children is because there are too many of us destructive creatures on Earth, it won't survive and nor will we if we continue breeding at the rate we are. So while we are designed to reproduce, it's getting to the point where that does more harm than good. Just a thought...

I don't like babies either and I don't ever want to get pregnant either. I find them scarey... I'm fine with children when their age becomes a 2 digit number though. XD
I sympathise infertile parents because I think they wanted to have a family of their own, but can't. =]

i'll say there's already enough people reproducing to compensate for your lack of. INSTEAD adopt the older kids...and be there for that if you want.

Anyways, you don't need to get pregnant to reproduce. Just donate one of your eggs. As you pointed out, there are enough infertile baby wanting women out there.
But I don't think that that's the point in life anyways. Evolution used to be about passing on the genes of the strongest and the fittest, but in our modern society, where even the most genetically disadvantaged can make a considerable contribution, that seems to be a null point really.
I think the thing we should focus on today is our social evolution i.e. shaping society, propagating positive traits and eradicating destructive ones. I'm sure you see where I'm coming from here.
I think your quite enlightened to realize that our demons are in fact caused by our inner believes. Hope you'll come to terms with this one eventually.

Babies scare me too. . More so childbirth. For the exact reason, I want to adopt a child that's over baby age but needs a parent, still to survive. I still count that as preserving my species but not with my same genes as I, which doesn't bother me as much as it might bother the rest of the world who likes having their own children (sometimes before the appropriate age).
I truly think there's more to life then just having babies though. For even though I don't know if there is a God or something more deciding this and naming something meaningful and something not, I don't think we'd really have our point decided to be something so pointless as making new people who also lack a point.
Sorry. . Went a little far with that one. Still, this is an amazing illustration and very much matches the theme. I hope you get an A.

You're not weird. I have a friend who's most likely infertile, and I'm very jealous of that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks these things (although your reasons are different from mine ajsdk;ajs).

Yeah... kinda know how you feel I guess XD I never want to get pregnant or have children and whenever I see a baby they do kinda scare me. ;3;
Which is funny because my mom works at a hospital and helps with women in labor and takes care of babies XD
