Description I haven't had much time to develop my world lately and everytime I start drawing environments, I realise I have no ecosystem developed, so I thought I'd start with the fundamentals - plant design! This was partially just something to get me back in the habit of drawing regularly since I really need the practice.

Swordfern:
These Old-World plants are extremely common across the continents. They can be found anchored between rocks and trees in the great red forests or sprawing across the landscape forming vast fields as far as the eyes can see. Like all Old-World plants, Swordferns are extremely efficient and photosynthesise using most of the light they recieve, using bioluminescence to regulate energy flow and prevent overheating. Swordferns in particular use round bulb-like protrusions for storing energy. These bulbs store spores which emit light while connected to the plant. These spores will seep out of the bulbs in order to reproduce in a process known as kinesis, however, some species will undergo kinesis seasonally, projecting millions of spores into the air around it, each still emiting light as it leaves the bulb. This creates a near-fog of red-hued twinkling air that is miraculous to behold.

Because of their efficient nature, they are extremely fast growing and are a staple of many creature's diets.
