I was curious of that too, so I went ahead and did some research on it.
Based on my extensive and comprehensive (4 minute) voyage into cyberspace, I've seen a few consistent references between ponies and toasters, notably Woodentoaster, a youtube music maker famous among the brony community, and Littlepip, who seems to be some kind of toaster repair-mare.
Concerning Rainbow Dash, specifically, I found 2 potential sources for these nebulous comments. First, a strange picture of Rainbow Dash combined with a toaster: mlpforums.com/topic/72213-rainβ¦
Second, (and probably much more likely) this short fan fiction wherein Rainbow Dash crashes into one while flying, and then the ponies become obsessed with it: www.fimfiction.net/story/10835β¦
