Alexandra asked for something orange, and this is what I came up with. I started running out of ideas toward the end since I didn't use any references, but I think it pulled together pretty well overall. A bit inspired by the art deco architecture in Bioshock.Related content

The mix of simplistic detailing on the buildings and the complexity of the building's connections is superb. I love seeing such work. Well done.

Thanks! Sorry, don't know how I missed this comment -- it didn't show up in my notifies for some reason. I actually kinda feel like the orange is a bit off now... like the city is made out of cheese or something. Might go back and try tweaking the colors a bit at some point.

Some may know me for being a dick for "insulting" work even though i'm trying to "critisize". Advanced critque? Unfortunately I'm stooped, you stumped me, i failed to findanything wrong, the monochromatic orange scheme is Lovely. One of my favourite colours, as well its a warm colour making the whole image jump out. For a "painting" the details are damn sharp. Great use of showing space and perspective, that includes blurring the far-end buildings..
Definitely a favourite and will use as inspiration for another scenery painting i plan to do, after i get a Wacom..

I definitely appreciate honesty in critiques. Most people hold back with what they say because they don't want to offend, but I try to treat my work professionally. I think with artwork it's not so much that you're looking for something "wrong" as just looking for something that could be improved; finding the weak spots, as it were.
Anyhow, thanks for the comment, I'm glad you found it inspiring! Wacoms are totally the way to go. Maybe you'll find a good deal or drop some hints to family members on the lead up to the holidays, eh?

I've only seen one picture of the city from that film but I think it's still had some influence on me. I really like the idea of a multi-layered city where walking between buildings doesn't just take place on ground level. Thanks Dave!
