A Mario character in a Sonic fan-artist's gallery? What is this blasphemy?!

Well, long before I discovered Sonic and indie games, I was (and still am) a hardcore Nintendo fanboy; I grew up on Wario Land 3, Ducktales 2 (the Game Boy port, that is), Pokemon Gold and later Sapphire, and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (just to list the ones I remember most fondly). Even now, I've clocked so many hours on both my preowned 3DS XL and my "New" 3DS XL, it's not even funny; seriously, I haven't gotten to the post-game of Pokemon Y or Alpha Sapphire, but games like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon keep sucking me away from my grinding... ;n; #firstworldproblems

Rambling aside, though, there's this awesome YouTuber called GaijinGoombah who has this brilliant show called "Game Exchange" about how video games are influenced by (and even directly influence) various cultures around the world; his show not only cemented him as part of "The Game Theorists", but even got him a fan club here on DA, founded by the talented BKcrazies0 and co-founded by the equally talented Nights2Dreams and Gaijin himself! The members of this group can even create their own OCs based around this show, dwelling in Sarasaland (Princess Daisy's domain, from Super Mario Land on the Game Boy) alongside the wise Goombah and his wife, helping them fight the plague of ignorance and stupidity known as the Fumon, and otherwise supporting the cause of cultural awareness through the medium we all love: video games!

Ever since I first saw the Game Exchange OC Template , I've wanted to fill one out so badly; trouble is, I wanted to have something original, and all the usual Mario characters were quickly taken: GG, Akiterra his wife, BKcrazies0 the club founder, several other members, and even the Fumon grunts and leader are all Goombas; Gaijin's Japanese friend Hutch is a Bob-omb; Nights2Dreams the co-founder has a Koopa Troopa/Dry Bones mix; two of the club's contributors are Shy Guys; Allochii (another YouTuber who's part of GG's Let's Play channel, "The Gaijin Gamers Play") is a Boo; there's at least one Toad, a Yoshi (that was originally a dragon), a Lakitu, a Crow from Yoshi's Island, and even a Bomb Boo from Super Mario Galaxy; and that's not even counting the humans, the Equestrian pegasus, or even the miniature shiny Reshiram that currently dwell in the various kingdoms of Sarasaland. Heck, TheGeckoNinja (GG's artist and fellow Gaijin Gamer) is a humanoid, transforming ninja that could've easily walked right out of one of the Mortal Kombat games! I couldn't figure out what I could make an OC out of!

...That is, until I got my hands on Mario & Luigi: Dream Team...

After probably close to an hour of total playtime, I came back to the Template and suddenly realized that nobody had done a Pi'illo OC yet, so I got right to work. In addition to the worlds of Dream Team and Game Exchange, I drew a lot of inspiration from the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons in making this OC; I even wrote up a character sheet with him (using the stat bonuses and features of a Forest Gnome as the basis) to get a better feel for the character himself. The choice for him to be a wizard in the School of Illusion is based on the Pi'illo's mastery of entering and manipulating the Dream World: in D&D, Dream is a 5th-level illusion.

But enough of my rambling! Let's meet this newcomer to Sarasaland, shall we?

Name: Zeedric

Gender: Male

Kingdom: None established (favors the Kingdom of Jiyu, but is usually in the Chai Kingdom)

Personality: Patient, curious, studious, inquisitive, just, quiet, strategic, somewhat old-fashioned at times...

Bio: While the Pi'illo Folk aren't known for their strength, what they are known for is their mastery over entering and even manipulating dreams, and Zeedric is no exception; a commoner by rank (as signified by his pink "pillow case") and a sage by trade, his studies of the Dream World lead him to study other types of illusions and how to conjure them via the arcane. However, his studies were cut short when Antasma destroyed the Nightmare Stone and locked the entirety of the Pi'illo Kingdom into a stoney, endless slumber.

After being freed from his petrification by the Mario brothers, Zeedric set out to learn everything he could about the new world he awoke in and what had all happened during the Pi'illos' slumber. That is how he came upon the work of various scholars he collectively called "the Theorists", particularily a Sarasaland native named Gaijin Goombah; the moment Zeedric learned that one of the Theorists lived in such close proximity to Pi'illo Island, he begged Prince Dreambert and Eldream for permission to seek out and learn whatever he could from the wise goomba. The prince and elder agreed, sending him as an ambassador to Sarasaland and tasked to record everything about the outside world; however, nothing could prepare the Pi'illo wizard for the couriers of ignorance that await for him, including a mischievious tanooki-goomba with an insatiable hatred for spellcasters...
