Description Lately, lots of people seem to have decided that my shapeshifter Zalmaki is fun to draw Whee! I'm loved! Sasha, her dragon form, has been the most popular, and I've found some people wondering about her colors, markings, etc.; to clear things up I decided to do a detailed reference sheet.

Description follows, keyed to numbered references. I'll be updating this part.

1 -- Head. She has a rather long, straight nose; her whole head is somewhat wedge-shaped, though like the rest of her it's all sleeked down and pretty moderate.

2 -- Horns and ears. The ear is mostly in the plane parallel to the side of her head. By itself it's as long as the rest of her head; with the furry tufts it's half again as long. The horn is slightly recurved and as long as the ear with the tufts added. The horns are fixed in place, but the ears are very mobile and expressive.

3 -- Mane. Her mane (the only part of her that's that shade of dark blue) is long and silky down her neck, with a few strands draping her face and forehead. Between her shoulders it becomes short, stiff, and straight, like a zebra's mane. The tuft at the end of her tail has two parts: shorter, stiffer hairs at its base, from among which the long silky ones stick out.

4 -- Forelimbs. Her front legs begin just behind the base of her wings. The feet are set 90 degrees sideways, so that the toes point away from her body; the thumb projects from what would be the outside of the hand, opposite a human's. What look like toes and a dewclaw when she's standing on them are in fact dextrous fingers and an opposable thumb; when she wants to use these she can either lift off the ground or stand on her hind legs, often folding her wing-wrists to the ground to balance on.

5 -- Hind limbs. Much more heavily muscled than the forelimbs, and triple-jointed where the other are double, these legs power her leaps into the air.The feet are just that -- they have none of the forefeet's dexterity, but much more stability and solidity.

6 -- Wings. The first alar phalange (wing-finger) is almost twice as long as the following two. The wing membrane meets her body just behind the hind leg.

Wow, I'm really getting over-detailed about this, aren't I? Don't take this sheet as me being anal-retentive about her design! Artists are still MORE than welcome to take license when drawing Sasha. I like other interpretations! This is really for me: I like to standardize my own designs, so I have a consistent reference.

i like the design of this character sheet - it is very comprehensive and detailed in thought. the description of neck extension - that is nice input to the sheet. i dont see a lot of people do that.

I was just trying to be complete -- glad I pulled it off.

This is wonderful - far better than any reference sheet I've ever made.
This is actually USEFUL!

So why do you put your best stuff in scraps again...?

uh... Well, this didn't really feel like a full completed deviation, I suppose.

As ever, I'm rather envious of your drawing skill. Very smooth, very flowing, much less straight line-y than my own. and very very detail reference sheet.

Oh good -- just so I'm not being completely anal about it. >.<

Haha, I can see you are also good at the same sort of stuff.

I can manage dragon anatomy pretty well, too, wouldn't you say?

This is amazing, though! Lord, you really worked hard on it... good job, Zal!

Yeah, I'd say your dragon anatomy doesn't suck. At all.

Actually, you'd be surprised how little work I put into this, at least at any one time. There's four different sketches in there...
