Good pic of the 'Cat'! The US did name some of it's aircraft. The Canso was a Canadian built version by Vickers and Boeing of Canada. It was essentially the as the PBY5.

They used to have a Catalina across from our school at Rand Airport. I'm glad I'm not a U-Boat!!

technically this is not a PBY Catalina. Its a Consolidated Canso. Or The Canadian Version.

Well, okay, a Canso! (Are there any differences, or is it just the name?) Anyway, it remains a great shot!

It has a 104 ft wings span. thought this is technically not a Catalina. Its a PBV Canso. Or the Canadian Version of the Catalina. (I just looked up its actual Designation)

I did not find any mention of the British calling the Catalina. only that it was an American Design.
