Unaccounted for, lost to some bygone century... We saw the signals several light years out. Radio. Infrared. A whole spectrum of activity pouring from one hunk of rock orbiting the L-Class dwarf. And they weren't just the auto-factories left by some Kuiper-era expedition. We could tell right away that there was a human civilization down there, meandering about their ways, stricken to the surface of this tidally locked dystopia. They retained enough technology to survive here, that much was clear. Yet we found only a handful of primitive satellites upon arrival. They were locked to their frigid hemisphere, warring and toiling, apparently unaware of the interstellar collective.

We didn't have a contingency. 83 light years from the council, our children would be old by the time we got a response. But amidst all of our instruction, we had nothing relating to an undiscovered pocket of self-governing, isolated, ignorant piece of humanity.

We wait. It is unlikely that our deceleration went unnoticed. They have observatories down in that perpetual night. Without a doubt, someone noticed our drive. We will wait for them.
