Wow.
This realy does look like a photo.
I really like the cut on the diamond, it's like it just stops the pattern to make the square.
Job well done!

I used Maya.
You can handle it using ploygonal modelling and you make every face. That's not so complicated. You can also use arrays, you duplicate cubes and then you use booleans to substract them from a cone (like the real way to cut diamonds).

nice work here! the diamond is quite nice, but there's something a little off about the ring for me. the (viewer's) right seems a bit too blurred near the stone or something...still really pretty!

Thank You. I may try something about it, I may add a glare effect.

So nice! In 3dsmax it's reflect and refract and also one of my favorite features. One more thing I always notice about your work is the blurring of some part of the object, like camera focusing more on it's subject (in photography, it's camera obscura). That's amazing! How do you do that? I don't know if 3dsmax had a feature like that, maybe i should try another experiment.
Another thing pal, well this is just a thought, when digital camera was first introduced some traditional photographers called it 'unintelligent' or like 'garbage in, garbage out'. I search for reason why, then i found out that what they mean is; if you take a shot into something using a digital camera this will produce a clear picture of everything on it. At first you will be amazed by its clarity, but the bad thing about it is, the clarity of the things in the background overpower the subject. That's why they called it a 'damn invention', but wait, since digital camera nowadays had focusing features like that... hmmm it is always a fun to own one.. hehehe. Thanks, goodluck!

Thank You.
This effect must exist in 3ds max, at least it exists in Mental Ray, it is called depth of field. In your camera settings you choose the aperture and the distance of focusing. DOF is an interesting effect it enhances realism a lot. The closer you are the smaller the sharp area is, the more aperture you get (toward 1 ) the smaller the sharp region is. And the smaller the angle of view is, the smaller the sharp region is. There are several tutorials about it in dA.
The first Digital camera were just hyperfocals, you cannot change the focus. And everything was more or less sharp in the picture. Now they use conventional optics with focusing and because the sensor is bigger now, you can expect to have a DOF effect. But it is hard to obtain with compact cameras ( because the sensor is smaller than a DSLR).

Don't you mean 'refraction'? Otherwise, I like how realistic it looks. Seems like something you could find on a banner of a jewelry store.
