Description I wanted to write a love story.
The ink dammed my pen,
the words would not come,
And it died. Stillborn.

I thought to write a tragedy instead,
high drama, love unrealized and early demise.
But my tale is too common,
details plagiarized from a thousand lives.

This left me to comedy,
twisting tears to laughter
and bitterness to irony.

I spilled words onto the page.
They lay flat, letters a jumble.
Barely any sense,
and nothing to amuse.

Uncontained, they overflowed.
Restraint?
I have none.
The story was born.

Proudly, it painted truth and lies
with equal fervor.
We were noble in those words.
We were horrors on those pages.

It was an epic inked in stolen letters,
living in two dimensions,
growing with each pair of eyes.
And I?

I wanted to write a love story.

Love this. It speaks struggles as someone who loves writing but finds it hard to get ideas out!

I'm glad you liked it ^_^ Sometimes I find that no matter how a story sits in my mind it turns into another thing entirely on paper. Life is like that too - plans and intentions all turned on their heads.

Yes I find that too! I find that my characters like to run away without me
There must be an element of spontaneity to allow you to keep going, I think!

It's true ^_^ Characters often take on a life of their own, and then you realize your carefully laid plans don't fit them. Rewrites and edits and re-working the plot arc. . .

Yes, lots of work goes into writing! I never realised how much until I tried it myself

I love this, I definitely relate. Sometimes, it's when you stop trying, that the story flows.

Yep, and sometimes the story you write isn't the one you intended. I am learning to embrace what I can invent rather than struggling to force a story that just isn't ready to be written. In art as in life ^_^

It's beautiful. True, also - I think many of us have been there!

Thanks It's a frustration I think any artist has when the creation is not at all what you planned, expected, or wanted. So far, I haven't tossed my pc out the window. But there's still time.

It's just too bad that sincerity doesn't automatically equal quality...

That aside, a lot of deviants don't mind and just submit horribly angsty stuff anyway! Don't forget, it's an outlet afterall. Even if it's bad, it has purpose.

Yeah ^_^  Nothing wrong with some sincere, angsty venting provided you know that's what you're doing. It's hard to assign a purpose to art, especially in a place like dA. It's all about intent and context. That's part of why I like the community here. I never feel like I'm exhibiting - I don't have the ego for that - it's just sharing, and you take what you want to get out of it.

True; I find all echelons of artistry in here, from Art with an A to people just having a good time. It's quite alright like this.
