I believe the reason was that in ancient times ppl thought you sneezed a bit of your soul out so you blessed that bit of soul on its way to heaven

Honestly, I completely agree with their confusion. Why DO we say "bless you"?

In medieval times people believed that a sneeze was your soul trying to escape your body prematurely. When someone sneezed others would say "God bless you" in hopes that God would keep whoever sneezed safe.

In german we say "Gesundheit". It translates to health or well beeing. It's short for I wish you health. So everytime I hear somebody say bless you it sounds strange, cause I translate it to "Gesundheit" first and after that to "Gott segne dich". "Gott segne dich" is god bless you in german XD

The version I always heard was that whenever you sneezed, a part of your brain comes out, so you bless them. It traumatized me as a kid, and I wished I heard the other version instead. :/

A real german here.
First, we don't shout Gesundheit, we say it. ^^
Second, yes we only say Gesundheit (health), but it actually means: "Ich wünsche dir eine schnelle Genesung" which means in english: I wish you a fast recovery.
Well at least where i am from. So we just shorten the sentence to that what we wish them, which is health aka. Gesundheit.

I thought of that too. Guess thinking about what I daily say can make things wierd.
But i think it is a derivat of "Ich wünsche dir Gesundheit" ="I wish you (more) Health"- the person did sneeze after all.
Like "I am sorry" is "Entschuldigung" in German "de-guilting" and was originally longer "Ich bitte um Entschuldigung" "I want you to take the Guilt of me", Meaning "Don't be mad"
People are basically ruling over the other after doing something bad by saying "De-guilt me!"

It's because your heart stops beating for 2 quick seconds, Gaster. Therefore alphys is blessing your soul.

From what I heard, they would say 'bless you' in either the medieval or dark ages when you sneezed because it was thought that you were getting rid of a demon and say 'bless you' would keep the demon from entering again. Though that's just what I heard.

I've always heard it was because people thought your soul escaped briefly when you sneezed and the blessing is supposed to keep it from getting stolen by demons or some shit like that
