If you do a murder run and decide to spare Papyrus at the last minute, he says “Wowie!!! You did it!!! You didn’t do a violence!!! To be honest, I was a little afraid…“ so even though Papyrus is actively frightened of you he still tries to get through to you anyway ;_; he’s so brave sob(alternately, now you can think of how scared Papyrus was when you killed him)
Sans just kind of overcome with relief, haha. Really he should be teleporting but it's more dramatic if he's running. You can imagine him passing out from exhaustion if you like.

So nobody call Papyrus dumb or stupid or naive for not attacking you in the murder run, for he knows this is dangerous but still does it, to help you and to (attemptively) save everyone else who's still alive. Which sometimes is a success, and other times a failure.
All you gotta do is gamble in a situation like this. And then take the consequences that come afterwards.
This scene is definitely my headcanon in the game.
Btw Frisk looks so cute being so tiny and held in Paps' arms<3 (looking aside that they have just been killing everyone)
