Description Runics are one of the few magic-users who do not channel mana. Instead their power comes through runes. The Elder Deities' awakening shattered the seals encasing them in slumber, sending fragments to all ends of Erandur. This is the origin of all runes. There are eight sets, each attuned to the holy elements of creation: Time, Fire , Shade, Earth , Water , AirIllusion , and Halo . As the strength of the bond between the bearer and the rune increases, so does the power and control exercised. The act of mastery comes when the rune's power has been fully absorbed.  It is important to remember that runes possess a certain degree of free will. Bonding with one often requires a combination of cooperation and domination. Generally speaking, a rune's power is often tied to how strong that rune's will is. This can create problems for the Runic who does do his research. For example, it is impossible to bond with the Solstice Rune without previously mastering the Inverse Rune.  Here we examine the Runes of Time.

The scroll of Time was designed to reflect the purest symbol of the element; the hourglass. The runes hold influence over arcane balance, physical speed, perception and to a limited degree, time itself. As the strongest of the sacred elements, the runes associated with it also exude great power. In fact, the Runes of Time function differently than the lesser six. This is because Runics do not posses the ability to channel the time flow of mana, making them unable to master a bond with any of the runes. In addition, the runes will not even reveal themselves to a nearby runic unless they have mastered a tier two rune of the 6 lesser elements and possess a rune of Illusion. Wielding one is considered a great achievement and those who do so, often never relinquish the bond, so as to keep its power intact. The Runes of Time are as follows;

Age, Arcane, Aura, Bell, Celerity, Chromatic,
Crested, Eclipse, Inverse,
Impulse, Jeweled,
Languid, Scribe, Solstice, Sphere, Toll, Vellum,

Love the design of this set, a few questions.  Firstly what was the reasoning behind the name choice with each of the runes.  Some of them dont appear to connect to time clearly.  Just curious what the thought was there.

Secondly you say reveal itself, what is the process that a rune would reveal itself to a caster?

Sorry, I didn't forget your second question, I had to run to class. The process of finding a rune is as follows. Most runes can only be seen by Runics with the naked eye. They must train in order to learn this ability to sense them. But, this does not mean they can sense all runes. If a runic meets a rune's requirments to bond, the rune will reveal itself, otherwise it would be as if nothing was there.

So if two runics go into a room, a master and a novice. The master can sense the presance of the rune and connect with it. If the rune deems him worthy, a bond can be formed. While that bond exists, the caster can learn and use the magic of that rune. If the bond reaches a "mastery" level, the caster will have access to those spells even after releasing the bond. If released too early, those spells will fade from memory. In this case, the bond will be reset to zero. Meanwhile, the novice may have no clue there was a rune in the room. Does that
make sense?

As they continue their studies and an idividual's power grows, so does their sense of runes. In the case of the Time runes, they rely soley on an individual's strength to allow themselves to be detected. No amount of pure sensing can find them. Let me know if that answers your question, or if you have any others!

Hey there! For naming, I try to use a combination of direct relation to an element, like Age, Solstice, Eclipse, indirect relation, Bell, Celerity, and the final part is usually how I want to shape the power and feel of the element.

Time is the most powerful in my world, so I was going for a bit of elegance, strength and power. For what I intended, I accomplished this well in the colors and names, I think.

Some may not appear related to time, but I may see they fit perfect. So there is definitely a perception gap, especially without going into what each rune does.

Hello, and thanks for stopping by!! To answer your question, both!! These rune sets are part of developing one of the fayths in my world. I plan on using them in stories.

With limited art time, I changed from character design to focus on these. There are about 100 in total, but I can do one a day and still feel progess.

Please come by again! I set up my gallery as a wiki, to hopefully help explain things, but it's far from complete.
