Description Alright, y'all remember I was whining a couple of weeks ago about how hard it is to draw DW? And I said I was going to dang well practice? So I've been practicing and here is a sort of progress sheet with almost all my efforts represented. I do see progress and I've learned a few things about his face but I'm not sure how well this'll hold up if I don't have the model sheet in front of me... but eh, I'm getting more consistent anyway, and it's a big step ahead of the night I couldn't even draw off the model sheet

I don't have dates on all of these, but I'll do what I can

The blue ones (upper right corner/center) were done on 5/17/11. As absolutely on-model as I could make 'em and very awkward because of it, but I tried really hard to look at "the rules" for drawing Darkwing and I learned a lot about his face in particular.

The green ones (most of the right side of the page) were a couple of days later, mainly at work, so I didn't have any references in front of me and was trying to work based on what I'd ingested before. Ended up drawing Drake instead of DW because... so help me I do like Drake more than Darkwing. Couldn't tell ya why, I just do. Anyway - I realized as I did it that his head is shaped like a sausage. And strangely enough that has helped.

The two pink ones are straight off the model sheet and were done on 5/27. The difference between these and the ones I did months ago based on screencaps is that I tried really, really hard to pay attention to my proportions instead of just drawing what I was looking at. More or less consistent on these two.

The purple ones are from last night, 5/31/11; the Drake one was done off a model sheet that broke down the shape of his body. I added arms and his shirt/vest so they look a little off. The Darkwing one was completely me (with references there but an original pose), so it looks different, but I think I got his proportions right finally

And there's my Darkwing journey for the month of May. I hope some good comes of this!

Darkwing Duck/Drake Mallard is (c) Disney and Tad Stones; the model sheets I worked from are here: [link] [link] and [link]

Thanks! This was borne out of massive frustration with my inability to draw him, and I learned SO MUCH doing this, so it was hugely helpful ^_^

"Sausage"
IOt really kinda is, isn't is.
I know this is a kinda old drawing, that I never got around to comment, but I just wanna say that I think you did AMAZING with him - Darkwing is without a doubt one of the most tricky characters to draw. These are excellent; my favourite though has the be the "!rake" - that pose excellent!

I know, once I decided that about his head everything else just clicked God, I can't believe I did these sketches back in May. O_o It doesnt' seem like I'm really more comfortable drawing him now than I was then... though, since I have drawn him a lot more succesfully since this point, I guess I'm more comfortable than I thought I was...

The "!" one is my favourite too Thanks!

Great work! And I know you said you don't like hearing this, but it's true: you really have made a lot of progress. Congratulations!

Thank you! Heck, when I am looking for progress, I am fine with hearing it. I still feel like the first set of sketches I did are pretty good, but I think I drew these in a better method this time, with more efforts to understand what I was doing as I went. But since I haven't practiced on him in about two weeks I'm sure I've lost a bit of it. Ah well! It's what practice is for.

Great job on these! He is a pain to draw. I'll have to keep that sausage-head thing in mind whenever I draw him again.

Haha, his head IS shaped like a sausage! You're getting SO much better - you can definitely see the hard work paying off! I love the ones you did from screencaps - they are so full of life! And the one you did all on your own is great, too! I love his expression. Typical, lol.
