Description Very quick acrylics sketch, using reference from the stock account of DaVisionary. Thank you for making this photo available for artists, DaVisionary!

THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE AN EXACT LIKENESS, however. It was just too stressful dealing with the paint. I hope it looks somewhat like the model, but that's it! Painted freehand, in about an hour, but made some minor corrections in Photoshop before uploading.

Painted with a limited palette of Titanium White, Burnt Sienna, and Ultramarine Blue. This is a classic combo and I've tried it before, but this time, with acrylics, it was HARD. But I hope I did okay!

I am trying out different brands of acrylics paint. This was painted with (mostly) Daniel Smith brand acrylics. Never again. I explained more on my blog. [link]

P.S. I'm hoping to do a portrait of Richard (you know who! ) in acrylics, but am waiting for more paint to arrive as well as some drying retardant. Painting without it is a hassle!

For the short time taken, and with a medium you don't seem overly happy using, this is very impressive! Blending acrylics can be a bitch... you gotta be quick, but the gel retardant really helps a lot.

I must admit, I tend to like these portrait sketches more than finished paintings. Something about the roughness and expressiveness of the strokes. The way you used the limited palette here is wonderful, especially in the modeling of the nose. I like how the cool bluish-white looks against the warm brown tones. The contrast adds a lot of interest. The likeness is indeed a bit off, but without having seen the source I wouldn't have noticed. Great work.

Thanks so much! I think I like my sketches better too. I am working on loosening up my painting. I also enjoy the limited palette thing. Thanks again for commenting.

This is amazing - it's the kinda of thing that makes me want to get into painting!! I've favourited this piece so I can refer to it for inspiration and technical reference such as shading, in the future, should I choose to pursue painting. Fabulous job on this, and you captured the character of the model in the photo perfectly. You can tell it is the same man, without necessarily being an exact imprint of his face - which is a good thing, as an exact recreation would impress me far less.

I'm gonna check out more of your gallery now - like I said, fantastic job, and keep up the good work ^__^

Wow, excellent! 1 hours? Another wow! I don't know about painting with acrylics except from what I read that they can be difficult to work with. Great painting!

Thanks! Yes, acrylics can be a bit tough, but it depends on what you're used to. I guess a lot of people love acrylics, but I need to get used to them still!
