As I arrived, the place seemed distinctly morbid - almost if it was sulking. Maybe it knew about my plight - about Betzen and her cruel intentions. Whatever the case, I'm satisfied to have escaped from that "Matron". However, she said I wouldn't be able to elude Desmond. I'm not sure how, but there might be more to Desmond. If my hunch is correct, he might tell me more about what's going on.

I have to mention that I think you made the subway station a lot darker than Panel #1 It suits the mood and the story. Well done.
Comparing the smaller first panel to #51 definitely shows the darker sides of thing to come ... me thinks! 8)

Her station seems a bit decrepit compared to before.

The station seems "whiter" for lack of a better word. The pillars on the sides and the floorΒ

I don't believe Desmond is a bad guy.
I suspect he is unaware of what he does instead believing Betzen. She probably used some of her "tender" care on him to keep him pliant to her will.
The place I believe is reflecting Saleena's mood. She came there happy but is now under considerable duress.
There is more to Desmond than just Betzen's lackey.
I think if he ever finds out the truth Betzen is toast when he gets done.

Matron in this environment to me means a female supervisor of the place. The boss guard.
In prisons they refer to the female guards as matrons.

Yes.
She is the one in charge at this time and they are not free to leave. She calls this place a "hospital" to aid them as patients.
This is a research center and these are subjects.
I believe she is working for others who are way more powerful than her. She thinks she is holding sway over them but I believe for now they will allow her to believe that till they either get tired of her sandbagging them or they have what they need.
Either way I don't see this coming out good for Betzen.
Right now she is the head Matron but I think soon some one is going to hand her head to her.
