Adopting is when you pay for a character design, essentially adopting it as your own. Bonuses are just something some adoptable makers add along with the original design to entice people, and you can get points by hovering on the Shop button at the top of the page, then going to Points and buy them from there. Or if you don't want to waste money, offer point commissions, or sell designs, or participate in giveaways that offer points.
