Ian is often seen as a confident and solitary person. He preferred to plan and work independently, with no unnecessary interactions with others. StoryDue to the times when Ian tried to guilt trip and anger Kai by bringing up a certain past event of his, in hope of replacing the white werewolf, the two had a rather stiff relationship at the beginning. They've had endless arguments since day one when Ian would spew heartless words at Kai in order to get him to hand over his body to Ian. However as time past, Ian's attitude towards Kai slowly mellowed into fewer hostiles' bickeries without them realizing it. Perhaps Ian had grown to be intrigued by Kai's sufferings in life, and that this relationship between them had brought their lonely days to life, even just a little.

On the other hand, Kai never seemed to show any interest in Ian other than trying to repel the doppelganger. Knowing someone knew about his weakness makes him uncomfortable, although Ian's decreasing hostilities did lift some of the discomforts, Kai still wasn't sure about Ian. They remained as they were, until Kai negotiated with Ian to be a partially possessing doppelganger, so that they could both escape from the Other Realm.
