Are conventions really fun? I might get to go to one for the first time and I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into.

It really depends on what kind of convention you're going to. Anime conventions are a blast, but be prepared for a lot of excessive spazzing and general immaturity. If you're dressed as a popular character (like I was), also be prepared for random glomping and people asking to take your picture every five minutes. I really didn't mind all that; I loved meeting Winry fans. But it can get rather wearing towards the end. Part of that could very well be me just getting old and not having the spastic energy of the teenagers I was surrounded by (I'm 24 now).
It's always more fun to go in costume and with a friend if you can.

Thank you! It's one of my favorite things about being Winry. I can make many Eds the world over tremble in terror or grovel at my feet.

OF COURSE!! I HAD to cosplay as manga!Winry. And my Ed TRIED to cosplay manga!Ed on Saturday morning but...NOBODY RECOGNIZED HER! It was very sad. They all knew me but they just assumed she was cosplaying as some random guy with Winry. Or worse yet, assumed that she was movie!Ed...XP Movie!Ed=BROWN coat...not black.

Well there was a moment two days before where we got a picture of the two anime Eds both yanking on my arms and me with an utterly bewildered look on my face. But unfortunately, I don't know WHO took that picture or where it is.
And of course there were multiple times when my Ed was all "You liked that other Ed didn't you? You want to run away with him huh?"
I just batted it off and told him he was being stupid. XDDD
When I was doing a couple of shots with the manga!Ed, they suggested that I hug her or kiss her or something and I sort of let out a horrified "NO!" I'm all for EdWin photo-ops...but...but...*small voice* I didn't know THAT Ed. I only wanted to hug MY Ed.

That's okay. I can use it when I NEED it, I just have to ask for it. But the wrench is at home while I'm at school so I can't just cosplay at random whenever I feel like it.
He doesn't really NEED it, it's just the principle of the thing. He MIGHT need it so he wanted it back. (He just does general repairs around the house when needed.) That and I don't think he was particularly happy that I nicked it without asking.

Oh, I understand that. It's great he knows how to do general repairs. It's always good to know the basics of things so you can do a do-it-yourself-independent thing. ^.^
