Its so eerie... At first, it looked so soft and glowy, and now it just looks terrifying... and strange... like.... *blabbers something about sea creatures and the ocean floor*

You've really got a gift for creating art that evokes powerful emotions!

awesome. thank you.

huh, i have never been terrified of it.

although to try to see were you were coming from, i thought about actually being next to thing (like if it were for reals) and yeah i would be terrified.

One of the most incredible sea-creatures I've seen. It's gorgeous. Some more of this, if you please.

perhaps.

i am currently contemplating doing an illustrated story.
i have actually been thinking about it for years now and have many good ideas.
it would require a lot of work to do properly. however, i am not sure i will have the time or resources to do it. in fact, it will probably only happen if i actually start getting paid to do art.

anyway to get to the point already, these creatures (or a variation of them) just might actually be in the story. i haven't decided yet, but i am leaning towards it.

so you just may get your wish.

That is really amazing... Is it the whole city in the biggest glass-dome?

I am really impressed by their grandiosity...

as mentioned in artist comments, my skills were rusty (they still are, but i working through it).

that being said, the whole top portion of whale is the city. meaning the areas with the "bubbles" all of the bubbles are basically like individual rooms/houses. actually it's probably closer to a village than a city.

each bubble/room/house is retractable and can go inside or outside of the "backpack." that's how they travel from one to another. anyway the drawing is sloppy, what can i say.

Simply astonishing. They look intimidating and gentle at once.

It's beautifully painted too, notwithstanding the six year absence from the technique.

its amazing, so much detail, and i absolutely love the creature designs

its back tentacles are so fantastic, and the texture of the larger animals snout reminds me of driftwood, or the rings of a fossilized tree ^_^

its underbelly is so intricately painted, so many little squiggles of what I assume are seaweed like flora

excellent piece my friend

yeah i love going crazy with detail.

this one has some sloppy stuff, but i still like some of it. i know i could do better.

i think the tentacles you're referring to is supposed to be a city. i'm not sure if that's how it reads or not. if you look closely you can see humanoids in the bubbles. the bubbles are retractable and can be in the inside position, the floating by the umbilical position, or released altogether.

the snout is part of the creature's super sonar ability. the whale-like creatures have evolved the ability to send complicated sound wave patterns not unlike the reflected sound waves of say a dolphin. and what i mean by that is that when a dolphin uses sonar, it can tell the difference between objects by the sound that's reflected back at them. a dolphin can tell if an object is a fish or a ball and how big it is, or what it is made of, the density and such. so in a sense they are seeing a 3d object, but with sound waves. the whale creatures have the ability to send frequencies as complicated as the reflected sound waves that a dolphin receives thus can send images to one another through sound. in fact, one of the mating rituals is sending back complicated sound patterns back and forth thus sending visuals back and forth. in a sense it is an art form.

i could be wrong about how all that stuff works. in fact i probably am. i have never researched it. i have just read about the dolphin's ability to know the difference between different objects to subtle degrees. the only way i can wrap my mind around it, is to think that they have the ability to "see" the objects in their mind.
and then it all went from there.

and the underbelly is the farm.

i had intended on putting more creatures near the underbelly including the humanoid creatures harvesting the crop, but i couldn't handle working on the picture anymore. there were just too many sub par aspects, and i needed to work on something else. i may or may not return to the idea in another image, closer to the way i imagined it, but it wouldn't be for some time if i did.

that's a bit of a tangent.

well, i guess while i'm at it...

i was initially going to make the creature on the lower right a baby or probably more like a toddler or young child. but i didn't feel like designing anymore, and knew that it would be easier to just draw one similar to the one in the foreground. i just modified the look of the city a bit. the toddler would have had different proportions and colorations and would have had more like a small town on it's back.

anyway i appreciate your interest. i figured people must have overlooked this image for until i posted the detail, less than 10 people looked at it. now almost 20 people have.

i have been checking out your newer stuff by the way, i just never post any comments, i am usually very pressed for time. in fact this is the third time i have tried to reply to you and i am never able to finish. even right now my son is saying to get off the cpu, so i will.

until next time...

thank you so much for taking that much time to reply O_O

i love the idea of the crops growing on its belly, and i had thought that the creature looked like it might have had some form of technology on its body, but wasn't sure

the city on the critters back is a fabulous concept, and at first glance, when i saw the stocks i thought that the people were reflections, absolutely brilliant my frend

thanks to your description, my appreciation of this piece has increased tenfold, truly breathtaking

i like to beg a story out of the viewer. i hope that happens on occasion.
i also hope they get something new every time they look at it.

there actually isn't nearly as much going on in this picture as i conceived,
but i just needed to be done with the project.
