Description This was photographed at the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum in Griffith Park, California during their February Small Scale Sunday event. This locomotive is owned and scratchbuilt by Bob Crone. It is 1.5" scale but 4.75" gauge. It is not modeled after a specific locomotive, but is based off of the 3-foot narrow gauge prototypes used by the Denver, Rio Grande and Western Railroad in the early 20th century. It is equipped with a water pump, injector, electric water pump and two whistles.

Very cool! I have a bunch of video from when I took my kids there in the 1990s!

Thanks, I first discovered LALS back in the 1990's. Since then, I have become a member, and acquired my own equipment for their rideable scales.

Although this locomotive is graced by D&RGW livery there is very little that is based on the D&RGW. Namely the valve gear, pilot, headlight, number plate, and smoke stack.

This loco is much closer to the 2-6-0s used by the Colorado & Southern. This loco looks more like how the C&S moguls after being rebuilt.

Still, this is a fantastic looking Live Steamer!
You see this is why I love freelance locos. They just have a charm about them although not based on any particular prototype.
