"I'll come back for you, I promise."

I meant those words I spoke in a hushed whisper, a tone I knew I would never speak with anyone else. (Name) relaxed in my arms, tears rising to her luminous eyes and spilling down her reddened cheeks. As much as it pained me to see her with such sadness in her soul, I knew it was something that must be done. I could not allow her to be trapped again. I wanted freedom as much as she, but I knew I had t sacrifice some of it in order for her to be free.

Here sat a person who I never imagined in my life, and now I couldn't imagine my life without her. The way she laughed, the way she held her head, the tears that escaped her eyes and the way she whispered my name were all things I would never forget as long as I lived.

I hugged her tighter to my body as I felt the moment of our separation draw near. I knew I would never see her again, as long as I lived, so I wanted these final moments to forever be in my memory. The way she felt in my arms, the way she pressed against me, the heat from her body and her scent; they were all things I never wanted to forget.

I could have turned her in, I could have ridded myself of her and her charms, but then I would never forgive myself. I could have had all the gold she was worth, but it would not ease the emptiness in my soul.

"Rivaille" her voice whispered to me, that voice that had haunted my dreams and plagued my thoughts. It cracked under the strain of the emotion behind it, sadness and despair at having to let go of me for the final time.

I wanted this moment to last forever, to never let go of her figure. I wanted nothing more than to hold her in my arms until the end of time. but the time was drawing close, the seconds ticking by faster than i wanted.

Then suddenly, it was time.

With a heavy sigh, I gingerly placed my lips on the side of her neck, whispering three words in her ear as I detached myself from her and slipped out of the carriage.

It took a moment for the carriage to start. It gave (Name) enough time to spring to the window and look after me.

How much I wanted to go back, to feel her in my grip one last time. But I knew that time had come and gone.

A heavy hand rested on my shoulder, captain Erwin whispered words I did not hear.

I only saw (Name), riding away for the last time, the evening light painting shadows on her face.

I saw her lips whisper my name

I saw her hands press to the glass, as if reaching for me.

I could see her blink the tears away

and she smiled.

"Rivaille, its time."

I didn't care.
