Description Nemros is a planet starved for the warmth of sunlight. With an atmosphere thick and heavy with red particles dust, not one beam of its system's star is able to penetrate through to the crimson desert landscape below. As a result, the world of Nemros is dark and heavy fogged with red mist. Their only source of light comes from the Opits - small, glowing balls of yellow energy that drift amidst the hills and valleys of the planet like dust motes on a breeze. There are numerous, but difficult to catch, and only those skilled in stealth or speed can obtain them before they dart out of reach. Their energy can bring light and warmth to thousands, but the government of Nemros has deemed hunting them illegal, for fear that wide distribution will allow wealth to slip through their fingers. Because of this, only the wealthy of Nemros enjoy the miracle of the Opits.

Jaricko IIlius was born of a lower class, but her father had once owned a lamp filled with weak, fading Opits he had won in a galactic game of poker. As a child, Jaricko had stared at them for hours on end, dreaming of how she might bring light to the people of her dark, dusty world. When she grew older, and her father's Opits had long since fallen to dull gray, Jaricko became determined to oppose her government and help the lower class citizens gain something few had ever enjoyed; the free use of light. Modeling a device from tubes, a motor, and her father's now empty lamp, Jaricko donned her father's cap and her class's symbol for Opits themselves and struck out on her own into the less populated districts of Nemros. There, living in a hut fashioned from debris, she became an outlaw, gathering Opits with her Meridiem-Captivatori (Glow-Captor), pirating them away and selling them secretly to her people under the name of "Solas". As she works to better the lives of the Nemrosi, and does her best to escape the wrath of the government sworn to end her opposition, she is kept company by a phenox named Arsee, a rare and mysterious creature who is the last of his kind.

Together, they are the Pirates of Light and the Bringers of Hopeful Freedom.

What comes to my mind when I hear the words 'Cosmis Corsair' is something nostalgic. It brings back memories of my father reading Treasure Island to me just before bed as a little girl, mixed with the love for Star Trek and Astronomy that my father also greatly encouraged. How could I possibly pass up the opportunity to roll so much love and passion into one drawing? The words instill in me a world of rogues and treachery, but also adventure and heart. Of those who are evil, and of those who walk the line of the law for a greater good. For me, 'Cosmic Corsair' means a story of epic proportions about to unfold.

The first thing I focus on when creating an original character is their inner self. What makes them tick? What makes them do the things they do? Are they bold, or timid? Contemplative, or rash? A character should reflect on the outside who they are on the inside; and you can only capture that if you know your character inside and out.

My greatest strength when creating characters stems from my need and want to improve. Art is a journey, one with many steps and a near endless path. For every step an artist takes, there is always another level to achieve. This is fine for me, as I really have no end goal in mind. My purpose is to forever learn and forever strive toward a better version of what I can do now in the moment. When I look back at my first drawings as a child, I can follow my progress up until this day, and see the many twists, turns, backtracks, and leaps I have taken. What is my strength when creating characters? My strength is to be assured that I will always do my best, and that I can always do better. I can learn from the people I admire, and inspire those who look to me in the same way; and together we will all spread our wings and soar to new and exciting heights.
