Technique and composition is good, but I think some more contrast would help it. It all looks like single shade (if you know what I mean...)

The part that you're talking about was done last, and unfortunately it was a bit hurried, because I had a new piece that I was starting and I didn't want to just abandoned the work.
I see where you're coming from though.
