Avengers X Reader Chapter Five: The Scientist

After following the detailed instructions of JARVIS with only two wrong turns, you found yourself in front of a set of clear glass doors. Peeking through the doors it seemed that all of the walls were made completely out of glass but there were drawable shades in case the people working inside wanted some privacy.

Dr. Banner currently had his back to the door. You decided that you should just get it over with and knocked. At the sound, he turned around noticing you and greeted you with a small smile. “Hello ________.”
“Hello Dr. Banner.”
“Please, just call me Bruce.”
“Alright... Bruce”

As he was greeting you he climbed up on to one of the more empty lab tables and removed one of the metal tiles that made up the ceiling. “Umm, Bruce... What are you doing?”
He was fidgeting around with some multi-colored wires when he answered you, “Just making sure Tony doesn't eavesdrop.”
“So that's part of J.A.R.V.I.S' system I take it.”
“Yea” He tinkered around with more circuits in the ceiling. Then climbed down with a nervous look on his face. ”Now that that is taken care of, do you mind if I ask you a few more questions about your, uh. Condition?”
Almost frantically he added, “only if you want to! You can always say that you would rather not talk about it. I know how it could bring up too many painful memories.”

You thought about the consequences of bringing up your past, you also had to consider if this man was trustworthy enough. Just because he is a hero does not mean that he would necessarily go out of his way to help a random orphan. Although, most of the Avengers have already done just that. “I guess it's alright.”

Bruce let out a small sigh of relief before mumbling to himself about where to begin. “Do-Do you know what was in the vials that he put into your blood?”
“He never said the exact name, but it was blue, shiny, and was supposed to make me a whole lot stronger.”
“And did it?”
“No clue.”

Bruce made a side note to ask either Natasha or Steve to test your skills in the gym later on.
You could tell from the way Bruce's eyes shifted over the room that the next question was going to be more complicated.

“What do you... turn in to? Like when you go out of control... I can understand why you wouldn't want to say it in front of so many people but I also have something like that. You-You see ________, I am the Hulk. And when I am angered or really surprised I turn into what I call, 'the other guy,' so... you can trust me.”

It's true that you did have an idea of what happens when you black out, but it feels like a dream... No... A nightmare. Everything you saw and felt seemed unrealistic and imaginary but when you 'woke up' the room looked exactly like where the nightmare finished.

Even if you could trust these people, there was no telling when you would have to leave and you didn't want any information about you to suddenly appear on the news one day.

“I – I really don't know.” You lie, casting your eyes to the ground.

“Alright, that is understandable I guess. I was also wondering if-” He was cut off by a fighter jet shooting through the window, making you both fall to the ground, glass splayed everywhere you could already feel the stinging sensation in part of your arms and legs.

When you glanced to your left you could tell that Bruce was fighting to stay in control of 'the other guy.' Crawling to him through the chaos, you knelt next to him and told him, quite harshly, to “Calm Down! It's one dude simply trying to piss you off, are you going to let him get what he wants?!”

At this point he looked you straight in the eye and you could tell that your little lecture had worked. As you took in your surroundings you noticed that this desk wasn't going to last against the oncoming ricochet of bullets for much longer.

“Bruce! We have to get out of here!” As if almost on cue, Iron Man bull-rushed the flying contraption, sending it out of control before crashing on a shawarma stand about a block away from Stark Tower.

“And that was my favorite place.” An oddly familiar voice sighed. Who could it be...? 'Duh!' you thought. Iron Man is Tony! How did I forget that?!

As Tony reentered the building his faceplate lifted to reveal the egotistical man you remembered. “Tony...” Bruce panted, standing up from beside you. “Why didn't you see that thing coming?”

“Well someone decided to disconnect JARVIS for an unknown reason.”

“I Only disconnected him from this room. There are plenty of other posterior cameras to catch that sort of thing.”

“But none of the cameras or sound systems were working and JARVIS told me it was disconnected from this room....” They continued arguing about the security system thinking that, that was the main attack.

Something was coming, something terrible was coming this way, you could feel it. But what?

As if to answer your question the windows that had not yet been broken in the previous attack were now shattered by people crashing through them. They wore complete black, equipped with bullet-proof vests and full-headed helmets. Tony and Bruce went at them immediately. Obviously, Tony was wearing his suit, but Bruce was able to take these mysterious people on with just his fists.

Taking a glance behind you at the door, you almost screamed when you saw more men in all black approach you. You were able to fight a few of them off before they began to outnumber you dramatically, you turned back around daring a look at the others whereabouts. Even Tony was starting to have trouble with the quantity of brute force they attacked with.

You were about to turn around to punch another foe when you felt an all to familiar stab in your neck. 'Not again' you sighed before blacking out.

~~~~~~POV Switch to Tony~~~~~~~

Right as they were definitely not going to overpower me (keep telling yourself that...) They jumped back through the window... They retreated, but why?

“Well, it looks like we have another bad guy on our hands huh Bruce. Who do you think they were after this time? Probably me since I am the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. What do you think ______? _______?!”
