I think that she is more like representation of the scandinavian resistance to the christianization processes. Pagan believes stated that a troll who came to be loved by human being could become human itself. She was just sincerely trying to lift the curse from herself, but stubbornes, narrow-vision,Β prejudgement and dogmatism of the knight stripped her from such possibility. So, it is very sad song.
