EDIT: Here's a quick video showing my process for this [link]This was supposed to be a speedpainting. HA! I think I over did it a little. This took about 8 or 9 hours to do from start to finish. Maybe 10. Trying a bunch of new techniques. Taking my time. I did this on livestream so thanks to all who came by. Very much inspired by . Also inspired by the new Iron Man 2 trailer. I'm excited. I'm proud of this piece.

Nice composition, colors - nice and realistic. Only critique would be a 'typical' iron man scene... the flying with the planes behind him could have been switched up for something a bit more unique but keep keep going dude. Remember to polish! most time is best spent on preparation and polishing everything in between is a means to an end

ya i was kinda going for classic iron man being chased by planes haha. i did this about a year ago i think. if i did it today i would have done something a lot more unique since my painting skills have improved.

it took me a long time to build patience. I used to paint or draw for an hour then I'd be done. I never got the concept of spending a ton of time on art. I start it and wanna finish. But I slowly started taking more and more time on pieces to where now my sketches are about an hour and my finalized stuff can be between 5 and 9 hours. I try to make it a habit so when this becomes my permanent job I have no issues with being patient and doing little details =]. So you could do it. it just takes time to build it up

Thanks so much. I was going for a real cinematic feel. Adding lens flares and focus and a contrast that looks like a film filter. Wide shot. and of course the details. I love giving a cinematic feel to things. If I had time I'd doit more often

Aw man, you gotta teach me some moves! I've been trying to steadily steer away from lines and into a more photorealistic pattern but I am finding it difficult, and I watched your video and it's pretty amazing! How do you apply that metal effect btw?

Once I finally finish the big projects I'm on right now I'll have some free time and I'm gonna start livestreaming and doing tutorials for painting so I can definitely teach you a few things. I checked out your gallery tho and you're doing really good. The trick to photorealism is always in the lighting. Thats what I've found. No matter where you are lighting is what brings different colors together to look like they fit. A lot of that has to do with shadows. Theres a few tricks I can show you to picking out a color palette that could fit together in a painting. As for the metal its simple. go to cgtextures.com and you can download any texture like cloth, metal, dirt whatever. you desaturate it til its grey. then put it ontop of the layer you want it to go in its own layer and set that layer to overlay. then itll blend itself with the colors behind and you've got texture. Also the more reference you use for color, figures, backgrounds, etc the more real you can make it look.

oh for sure. its super easy. When we both have a few minutes of freetime I'll turn on livestream and do some real quick texture examples to show you. this piece was the first time i ever used textures. i actually did this painting to practice the use of textures.
