really nice. is it carved out of one piece of wood or several attached together?

Actually, It was carved from 5 pieces. The shell and belly were one, head and neck a 2nd, the back legs and tail were a 3rd, and each front leg was separate. I used a pattern from a carving book, but I modified the details extensively. Also, I used ends from toothpicks for the claws.

Kick-ass, I almost thought it was real, great job with the paint, what's it made out of, Wood?
Anyway, fantastic job on the eyes, they're normally the hardest part to get looking "lifelike".

Yes - it is carved out of Tupelo wood. The claws are actually the tips of tooth picks - lol. He is about 8 inches long, and will be placed in a habitat for a Walleye. Thanks for the fav!
