Description Yuu and Miki from Marmalade Boy. Original comp. is either from the manga or artbook, not sure which..

This was a b-day gift for a friend... Happy Birthday Amanda!!

My second attempt at shading, so again any thoughts would be most appreciated. I tried something different with Miki's skirt and kind of messed it up, or at least it didn't turn out how I thought it would..

*glomps* You're a natural, m'dear. You have a very soft look to the greys -- sort of an airbrushed feel, that I love. There are some uneven spots. Just remember that paper is just like felt and none of the fibers go the same way. If you change the angle of the pencil constantly and go over the same spot several times you can cover the fibers completely. This will eliminate white spots and can get rid of dark ridges caused by uneven overlapping. That thing they taught us all in gradeschool about going all in the same direction to make it smooth is an evil lie. Personally, I hate using my finger to blend ghrapite. Some people like to use paper rolls. I don't like using those on pencil either. It's possible to make it smooth and even with only a pencil and an eraser, but there is no right or wrong way to do it. The ends totally justify the means in art. It looks like you used an eraser to add the white in later on the skirt. What don't you like about it? I think it looks really good.

Thanks for some tips Talis! Actually I wanted white thread to be going through the skirt. I tried to add it with my white pencil... that didn't work, so i used a white paint pen...I guess it looks alright, just not what i wanted it to look like..

oooooo. Try getting one of those kneaded grey erasers. That's how I usually draw my white bits in. You can sculpt it to tiny and use it to gently rub out the graphite. If you're patient, you can get it almost as white as the paper was before. The grey erasers are great because no matter how much you use it, it won't damage the paper. They are great for detail work. Maybe you're not happy with it because you're looking at the original. *grins* My scanner seems to hide a lot of my mistakes. Maybe it's the same with yours. Anywho, I like it. *glomps*
